Task 2 revised MB
Developing a Professional Growth Plan Introduction I am teaching seventh grade English Language Arts in New York City . The 2022-2023 school year was my ninth year in our profession. The school is a Title 1 school with just under 500 stu-
dents, in grades six through eight. My class sizes averaged 20 students in person, while some classes also had 13-16 students joining us virtually through Microsoft Teams. Need or Challenge Since the pandemic, there’s been a myriad of changes when it comes to instruction. Again, the pandemic forced us to focus on squeezing the other forms of learning and competencies that we were unable to give the appropriate time writing units and lessons. For this reason, the need or challenge I would like to focus on is goal setting as a teacher and try to mitigate the complexities
when it comes to reaching goals and finding the right fit for my limited English proficient stu-
dents.
Long-Term Goal #1
The first measurable goal long-term goal for my professional growth plan will allow me to meet the needs for my students and will be to create a ‘right fit” curriculum that is accessible, motiva-
tional and engaging for the students overall. I will gather information from my assessments (for-
mative and summative ) and will use this data to see if where I need additional assistance or sup-
plementation.
Goal #1 Explanation
The explanation of the goal is to construct a “right fit” curriculum to get the students to be more engaged an working in groups. I will have a 90 minute block schedule and then offer 10-15 minute breaks midway to change the scenery and have 1 on 1 time with students while working English profi-
ciency. The goal of the curriculum is to increase student interaction and en-
gagement that will lead to increased retention of knowledge and high suc-
cessful outcomes in learning objectives (Wiliams, 2019).
Short-Term Goals for Long-Term Goal #1 1.Offer warm up sessions that allow students to collaborate with one another
prior to each lesson
2.
Provide a down time session where students can absorb knowledge at the end of each lesson completed.
3.
Obtain a daily log what will allow me to document any notes of where some students didn’t feel engaged or didn’t grasp English proficiency concepts during the lesson.
Actionable Steps
My planning days would ideally be Tuesday and Thursday which allows me to break down and focus on my short-term goals. For instance, it gives me ample time to incorporate the cross-
words and creative games throughout the week to align with the weekly lessons. Moreover, I can easily track students progress and determine their accountability on completing assignments during the warm up sessions. As a result, completing these steps can make me a better teacher and prepare the students for success in the future. Downtime sessions will be about 15 minutes to allow time for students to reflect on the material they just learned and I will also document ev-
idence from the down time sessions of how much knowledge was understood by the students as far as the content is concerned
Timeline
My planning period consists of 70 minutes per day to meet my goals for 5 days. Tuesday and Thursday will be the days I incorporate the creative games, crosswords and puzzles. Wednes-
days will be a review day and a day to shore up the accountability rate of the assignments and progress tracking for students. I will collaborate with other colleges to for supervision and advice
on what I can do better during this process. Each goal will require 70 minutes per day for a total about 6 hours per week for 8 weeks, which would signify the midway point. To conclude, I will reevaluate the date one the past 8 weeks to see if there are weaknesses and what I should work on to bring out positive outcomes for the students and to continue doing well in the strengths from the data.
Long-Term Goal #2 My second long-term goal is to be more efficient and increase access to my students by using various strategies in a participatory manners by December
13, 2023.
Goal #2 Explanation The motive for this goal is to increase the motivation for students and to help acquire the tools and strategies to help me grown and learn as an edu-
cator. I am looking forward to learning through professional development

networks as well. I will participate in a training writing workshop program that has 4 classes that’s gonna help me accomplish this goal. After meeting with many colleagues who have the same problem with their students when it comes to writing weaknesses. The above program is a proven effective method that can increase the positive out-
comes for your students when it comes to writing. My colleagues used this curriculum approach and witness vast improvements shortly after introducing this program to her class. After getting clearance with my current principal and other colleagues, we decided utilizing this program the upcoming school year and look forward toward the benefits for our 7th grade writers.
Short-Term Goals for Long-Term Goal #2 (Measur-
able steps)
4.
I will attend a professional developmental course to learn and implement instructional strategies on how to use writing prompts in an educational and motivated way to enhance writing skills by December 13, 2023.
5.
I will attend a professional developmental course on how to learning writ-
ing strategies for teachers to help transform students writing experiences by December 13, 2023.
6.
I will attend a professional development course on how to help student flourish though writing endeavors by December 13, 2023.
Actionable Steps
The steps that I am putting into action is following step by step the plan of my long-term and short-term goals. I will give total attention to all the goals consistent every week and make sure the students are hitting their marks.
Timeline
I will be completing one professional development course per week during after hours and week-
ends. Each professional development course is 5 hours each and I will be implement ideas and elements that I learn in my lesson planning and goals.
Goals and Continual Improvement The ideal way to tackle a goal is to break it down to small goals and compartmentalize ideas into a step-by-step process that will guide into incremental levels until you get to the bigger goals. In
order for my professional growth to occur, teachers must set realistic goals and cultivate objec-
tives and plans to reach those goals. The juxtaposition of short-term and long-term goals is a recipe for success for my teaching practice and the success of my students.
