Introductions
Taking Turns
Students will become familiar with taking turns and talking about the subject offered by the teacher. They need to learn how to formally introduce themselves and how to take turns speaking as a class. This way when it is someone's turn to speak, they know when they can and cannot speak. We will go over the introduction video and I will express why it is important for the students to take turns and formally introduce themselves. This lesson goes with ELA and also lifeskills. Differentiation and UDL strategies needed for this lesson
Engagement- I will use songs and visual aids to support students' engagement. Supporting self-
regulation by using the daily binders and sending homework home. Representation- Sharing videos that allow students to understand the importance of introductions
and using visuals when needed. Action and expression- Students will be able to use assistive technology when needed. Students will be able to communicate questions and answers to their peers. Level 1: Recall & Reproduction

Anticipatory Set/Activating Background Knowledge
Lesson planning tip:
Describe how you will review any lesson or prior knowledge that is relevant 10 mins
Teacher will address the class with the lesson which
is morning introductions. She will express to the class that they will come up one at a time and introduce themselves.
They will state:
Name
Address
to the current lesson. You
need to help students see the purpose of the lesson and connect with prior knowledge.
Phone Number
Names of Parents.
(This lesson will also help them memorize important information that they may need to use in
real life situations. )
The teacher will then demonstrate by allowing the students to ask her what her name is.
The teacher will then show them a jar which is filled with questions they can ask their classmates. Questions such as what is your favorite color. Students who use speech devices will have these answers listed under the about me section on their device. Teacher will play this video after explaining the lesson

Instruction
Lesson writing TIP
: Begin with a review of the lesson objectives. Then present/teach the new skill/concept/content. It is important to explain the PURPOSE – do this as often as possible. Students
will understand why they are doing something, and it will help them focus on the elements important to the task, and will increase comprehension and motivation. 15 mins
Students will gain an understanding of the importance of memorizing these important things. Students need to know what their name is, where they live and other factors. This is important so if they have to ever use this in real life situations.
Before morning introductions, students will practice writing their name and address in their daily binders.
If the student requires hand over hand assistance, this will be provided by the staff.
If the student requires tracing, this will also be provided by the staff. If the student requires velcro folders this will also be supplied by the staff.

Structured Practice (e.g., reinforcement, questioning, feedback, “I do”)
Lesson planning TIP
: This is an important step in scaffolding a new skill. You are providing an opportunity for students to
see the application of the skill/content so they are more with familiar with it.
10 mins
Students will go up one at a time and they will be asked to state their name and address. They can even be asked for their phone number. The students will then wait on a classmate to pick a
question out of the jar. The question will then be asked by the classmate. Guided practice (e.g., questioning, feedback, clarifications, “We do”)
Lesson planning TIP
: You are providing supported practice and scaffolding for a new skill.
Be sure to explain each step, and be very clear about what they are to do and why. Ask for any questions and allow time for clarifications. It is critical to provide an opportunity for students to
practice the new skill with teacher guidance before allowing them to do it independently.
10 mins
(Students will be asked to go over their names and address at home with parents so that they are also getting the practice at home.)
Each morning the students will work on the daily binders which consist of an about me page. They will fill this out each day so that they are getting practice before they do morning introductions.
Independent Practice (“You do”)
Lesson planning TIP
: During independent practice, give students clear directions about what they are to do and how. Check in with students as they work to 15 mins
Teachers will walk around to each student and ask them questions regarding what they have learned. The students will also fill out a daily buzz that explains what they have learned during this academic lesson.
see if they understand the skill and the content.
Review/Conclusion
Lesson planning TIP: Be sure to culminate with a review of the lesson and any discussions
that occurred.
Students will be asked questions after the lesson on what they have learned about their classmates. The
teacher will ask the students “who loves the color RED?” The students can then answer the question as a class. After the lesson it is important for the teacher to express the importance of this lesson to the class. The teacher can give them real life scenarios to where they may have to answer these questions. Not only is this lesson a great academic lesson that addresses ELA, this lesson also applies to life skills for the class. Evaluation/Assessment
Lesson planning TIP
: The evaluation must tie in
with the stated objectives for the lesson and
the content standards
.
Class will allow one student to talk at a time and they will be talking about morning introductions as

Reflection (for those in clinical practice)
n/a
This lesson helped me to understand how I can apply the common core standards to a special education class while making it something that the class can do as a whole. It also gave me the opportunity to see how I can accommodate students with a diversity of needs.
