Introduction Did you ever think about if its a good or bad thing if employees use social media while at work. Employees are to follow the company policy by protecting the privacy of other employees and using social media to build the brand of the company. The use of social media by employees can be help the business by branching out to and finding new sources of networking for future success, employees can bring negative attention and publicity by what employees post. One benefit of encouraging employees to use social media would be expanding possible opportunities for network support, while one risk would be that productivity with the workplace will drop. Benefit While some businesses are seeing an upside of the usage of social media in a workplace, some are wondering whether social media makes us more productive or does social media kill productivity? Social media can encourage colleagues closer together by casual conversing between each other, and help building healthy workplace relationships in the business. “Social media is about the people! Not about your business. Provide for the people and the people will provide for you” says Matt Goulart(Bizzi, 1). You always heard the saying do not do to others that you don't want to be done to you that goes the same for people in the community provide for the people the people will provide for you. Social media really does play a huge factor in workplace communication, and that brings various different things that need to be considered such as moral values and different ethical considerations that could possibly have effect on the business. Risk Allowing social media within a workplace can possibly alter the dynamics of customer relationships, marketing, even more would bring negative risks and attention to the business. Organizations are trying to avoid when it comes to their employees using social media is the possibilities of online harassment, cyberbullying, and the biggest target would be users being judged and bullied for their gender, race, and sexual orientation. Being mindful of how you show your behaviors around the workplace can have a huge impact on how the employees react to each others actions "Even if employees are clearly acting in a concert way, they won't be protected if they cross the line from constructive behavior to malicious or reckless actions"(Westwood, 2). Always being aware, know what is enough, when you done crossed the line is at when the concert way can also be remove the protection that was ever granted by the NLRA. In just a blink of an eye things can just go out of control, when you got to remember that your incontrol of the outcomes of those situations and things can't go unseen. Conclusion Having multiple network resources that can support you in different areas of your business is a huge benefit to expand in many directions for success. Social media can also bring bad publicity to the business by different negative posts or possibly inappropriate relationships within a 2
workplace. While social media usage has its ups and downs with employees having access to it while at work, just keep in mind the values and morals of the business has a huge impact on the image of the company. 3
