Space Mining and Exploration 1 Understanding Scholarly Articles Scholarly articles are articles that are written specifically for scholars and don’t have any flashy output. They are written by experts in the field and are peer-reviewed by people in the same field of study. Scholarly articles stay with their purpose, don’t include images or other decorative measures, and strongly use the jargon used in the field for which the article is written. Understanding a scholarly article is important because it allows you to get the best information when you are writing, and you will be able to know the information you are receiving is made by someone who is an expert in their field with credentials to prove that they know what they are talking about. The easiest part to understand and read in the steps on how to read a scholarly article when reading “ Space Mining and Exploration: Facing a Pivotal Moment ” was the title and the abstract. The title is self-explanatory in that it is an article about space exploration and the things to do with that such as treaties etc. The abstract is the summary of the article placed before you start reading the article which is something like an introduction to me. An abstract guides you into what the article will be going over so that you can know if it touches on a topic that you are trying to get information about. The hardest part of reading a scholarly article, for me, was the literature review because it was the hardest part to understand and grasp. The literature review is where they would provide why the research was needed and any holes in the research. When reading, the article pointed out several treaties that were majority not in favor of and ones that were and even included a description of them but because I’m not really into space and government-related actions I had to read them a few times to get the point. So, it’s not really that I didn’t understand the step but more that I found it hard for me to read the literature review included in the article.
Space Mining and Exploration 2 I had a hard time understanding the article in general, there wasn’t any specific part that was hard to grasp, after reading it a few times, I’ve decided that the article is mainly about the exploration of space, mining in space, what that means for smaller countries and the legal framework for space mining. The article goes over several treaties enacted and privately enacted things such as the United States allowing private companies to mine in space. It wants countries to come together and build our economy together by continuing to enact multilateral agreements so that all countries will have access to our growing world when introduced to mining in space. This is all to ensure stability in space for all countries.
