Explain the effect of successful teacher collaboration on student instruction. Include examples of what this teacher collaboration would look like. Conversely, describe the potential challenges that may exist when working in isolation from peers at your grade level or department. How does the Christian world view apply to this concept of collaboration? Successful teacher collaboration has several positive effects on student instruction as well as mental and emotional support for the teachers (Reeves et al., 2017). The role of a teacher is a unique one when looking at other workforces and what is expected of employees. Without having the first-hand experience, it is hard to understand the barriers, challenges, expectations, and weight of being a teacher. Therefore, having other teachers to rely upon and collaborate with is one of the most important resources we can tap into as teachers. Personally, I have gained new ideas when observing other teachers’ classes, gained insight into challenging behaviors through conversations with those more experienced than myself, and found solace in sharing hardships and frustrations that inevitably arrive from this job. Ultimately, all of this leads to me being more emotionally available for my students, and excited to implement new ideas I’ve picked up from others, which helps reinvigorate my passion for teaching. Inversely, being isolated from peers at your grade level or department can be disheartening and make one feel as if they have no support in their position. This can eventually lead to teacher burnout which in turn results in a lack of effective teaching in the classroom (Reeves et al., 2017). Looking at collaboration from a Christian world view, we are called to come alongside others and serve them. When we serve and support each other, we help one another succeed and be prepared to glorify God through the hard work we do in our jobs. Reeves, P. M., Pun, W. H., & Chung, K. S. (2017).
