ENG-122 MODULE 2-5 ANNALYSIS 2
I believe the Context and purpose of “The High Price of Multitasking” (Willingham, 2019) is that the author has realized that multitasking is not always good and can be dangerous and would like to shed some light on that to other people. I think the tone is serious and the writing style would be expository. At first, I thought he was just trying to say multitasking was dangerous as in life-threatening but by further analysis, I see that is not all he is talking about. I have learned that not every form of multitasking is necessarily on purpose, but all forms come with their own dangers. Multitasking makes our brains try to do and focus on more than one thing at a time which makes us lose focus on the main thing we are trying to do.
Reading this article a few more times and doing a closer analysis of his writing structure and claim may help me better understand what he is showing us and may help me be more aware
of my own multitasking. I may go further into research and read the studies he is talking about in
his article. Some of the evidence he uses seems like it may help give me a better understanding of just how multitasking can affect our brains. Especially the study where it shows that the subjects had slower compression of the letters and numbers. I may also look further into the different laws about multitasking like using your phone while driving or even while walking. I believe Daniel did effectively achieve his purpose for writing this article as it now has me thinking more about multitasking and how it affects us. He shows a lot of good evidence and makes you want to know more about it. I still listen to music sometimes when studying but it is a
hard habit to break as I have been doing it most of my life. However, I believe I do still comprehend a good majority of what I am studying since I have grown up doing this I have learned to mostly block out what is going on around me and concentrate on what I am doing at the time.
