Assessing Multicultural Literature
1.
Choose a multicultural literature book, article, or poem.
2.
After reading the piece of literature, use information from the IAT quizzes (use the results from
at least two of the assessments you took in Week 1) and complete the checklist for assessing
children’s literature.
Remember to look out for your own implicit biases as you assess the piece
of literature you have chosen.
3.
Find the ELA standard from your state that you would like to teach using the literature you have
chosen.
4.
Find the data for your school, parish, district, etc. that you were asked to find in Week 2.
5.
Complete the Action Plan Template using information from the two bias quizzes you have taken,
the results of the checklist, and the state standard you have chosen.
