Plot:
The book is about a lighthouse and its daily routine and what it explores each new day.
How it beams out to sea sending messages. Even through the various weathers

The front cover shows a white lighthouse with some red trimmings. You can see
the blue sea behind it. Throughout the book it shows you're the levels of the lighthouse and what
is on each level. You can see the crazy storms splashing against the lighthouse during different
weathers.
Personal reaction:
I thought this book was pretty cool. I have always wanted to visit and go up
into a lighthouse. So, to see the pictures of one and what it goes through on a daily day was
pretty neat.
Curricular connection:
I can use this book and read to my class when we are learning about the
weather or making predictions. Such as what do you think the lighthouse does differently in a
storm or how do different weathers shape the lighthouse.

Plot:
In the midst of the Great Depression and family of 9 finds a paper shack in the woods. And
over time they make it their own home.
Illustration:
On the cover of the book, you can see the home in the woods and the entire family
helping out to make the home their own. It shows a family portrait, and you can see them
walking in the woods with all their things trying to find a place to call home. It even shows a
map of the forest.
Personal reaction:
I think this was a heartwarming book about this family. They found a place
and made it their own and that lets us know that no matter what you go through in life you can
make a home out of anything with your loved ones around.
Curricular connection:
I can have my children read this brief book about what this family went
through during the depression. So, when we are learning about the great depression. They know
what some people went through.

Plot:
During World War 11 2 sisters simona and Carolina and up getting separated from their
father, so they embark on this journey in hoping to reach safety.
Illustration:
On the cover of the book, you can find the two sisters holding each other in fear
wishing to be safe again. Looks like they are in Japan with posters seen all around and an
airplane soaring above letting out some type of gas/powder.
Personal reaction:
This book made me really feel for those kids and all the kids during this war.
It’s sad to see that many kids were separated from their families.
So, to get an insight on what
really happened in a different view was interesting.
Curricular connection:
I can have my kids read a little bit of the book each day when we are on
the topic of World War ll. Then we can talk about what they think will happen next or compare
events that we already know.
