Report
Assignment 2: Informative Report LaVante Rouse ENG 116 Dr. Davis November 13, 2023 1
Introduction Working parents often find it hard to locate reliable and convenient childcare solutions to help support their work-life balance. The company is considering implementing the policy of daycare in the workplace. This report aims to identify the primary benefit and risk of having a daycare in the workplace. One benefit of creating an on-site daycare would be lower turnover rates, while one risk would be that it could cost the company too much money. Benefit The main benefit of daycare in the workplace for the company is lower turnover rates. This benefit is significant because it allows for companies to retain employees longer, resulting in the employees producing better quality work for the company. According to Harvard Business Review, "Employers that provide high-quality childcare will not only differentiate themselves from the competition but will also create a “sticky” benefit that fosters retention" (Modestino, 1). The ability of employers who offer childcare can stand out and keep their employees longer separating themselves from their competitors. The main benefit of daycare in the workplace is lower turnover rates, and it could help generate greater employee productivity and differentiate the company from its competition. Risk The main risk of a daycare in the workplace policy for the company is that it could cost the company too much money. This is important because the company could have to make budget cuts in other areas of the business in order to implement the policy change. According to Chron, "Before opting for a workplace day care program, companies need to consider if it is indeed the best option. If too few employees take up the day care places, it could end up costing a lot of money" (Magloff, 2). If the employees do not or cannot take advantage of the daycare practices, then the company could lose money implementing the policy change. Carrying out the policy change can cost the company money if the employees do not make good use of the daycare within the workplace. Conclusion Daycare in the workplace can lower turnover rates making for a more productive company. There is also the risk that implementing a daycare in the workplace can cost the company too much money if too few employees do not utilize the program. By reviewing the main risk and benefit of a daycare in the workplace policy, a decision can be made to determine if it is beneficial to implement for the company. 2
