11/21/2023
What is your educational background?
I attended Rudolf Steiner High School in 2001 and graduated from
North Carolina Central University in 2006 with my bachelor’s in English
Literature.
What area do you work in or subject(s) and levels have you taught?
I work in the English department and I have taught 7th and 8th grade
along with the grade I currently teach, AP Literature which mostly
consists of seniors
Why did you become a professional in K-12 education?
I became an educator because I simply love to teach. I chose this
profession because it comes for naturally and doesn’t feel like work.

Was there a teacher who had a particularly strong influence on your
life? Tell me about him or her if a teacher exists.
Absolutely, my 8th grade English Teacher Ms.Gains she was very
patient and kind, almost too kind. She taught in a way that was easy to
understand and she made me comfortable but also confident. So much
so, I knew that’s exactly what I wanted to do and that I wanted to do
for others what she did for me.
What are the characteristics of a good teacher?
Characteristics of a good teacher include being knowledgeable in their
subject area, having strong communication and interpersonal skills,
being patient and understanding, being able to adapt teaching
methods to meet students' needs, and being passionate about
teaching and learning.
What is your approach to discipline in your classroom? (Ask if current
or former teacher)

Approaches to discipline in the classroom can vary depending on the
teacher's style and the age group they work with. Personally, I use
positive reinforcement and simply establish clear rules and
expectations and provide consequences for misbehavior. My main
focus is on building a positive classroom and having a sense of
responsibility and respect among students so they can return that
hospitality to me and their peers.
How do you get the community involved into your educational work
environment?
Getting the community involved in the educational work environment
can be done through various means. I organize many parent-teacher
conferences, involve parents in school activities and events,
collaborate with community organizations, and seek community
support for educational initiatives.

Educator Interview

The growing demands and expectations placed on teachers nowadays
are among their biggest obstacles. I think we deal with curriculum
changes, varied student requirements, standardized testing, and
scarce resources too often. The COVID-19 epidemic has also caused
disruptions to classroom norms and new problems for remote learning.
Tell me about your philosophy of education.
For me I emphasize the importance of student-centered learning,
individualized instruction, and fostering critical thinking skills. If we
aren’t 100 percent invested in these students, and teaching in a way to
where it suits them along with giving them something they can use
outside of the classroom, then we aren’t doing any justice.
After concluding my interview, I realized more than ever that educators
are not only the most effective and important people in the world but
they are so overlooked. Teachers are the foundation of our democracy
because they develop students' creativity and curiosity, help them
become skilled workers, and make educated citizens. Having an
excellent teacher is one of the most valuable resources we can give

our pupils in every classroom. Without a dedication to attracting,
fostering, and retaining highly skilled educators, this is not feasible.
