Personal Ethos and Personal Growth
Introduction
What is personal ethos and how does it apply to daily life? Personal ethos, to me, is someone's
code of conduct and how they interact with others on a daily basis. English composition helped
me understand areas that needed improvement by allowing me to analyze inside my own head
and heart. It helps people understand our intent and is important because it shows others our
character. Personal Ethos
My personal ethos has been shaped by my years in prison. In the prison system, you are
nothing but a number, not even a name. The guards treat the inmates like animals, and if we
disobey, they lock us in cages. Behind bars, the rule is not to trust anyone, even if they give you
a reason to trust them. Out in the world, it is the complete opposite, you trust someone until they
give you a reason not to. Being released from prison after over a decade was a very big transition
after over a decade. Development of Writing Skill
The development of my writing skills has improved for the most part. The skills I have learned in
this course would be critical thinking and active listening skills. These skills were not my best
before but during this course, and previous ones, I have been able to develop them. The
challenges I still face is with writer’s block, but I have learned how to work through it with
different drafts and steps. Growth Opportunities
3
The personal ethos I articulated in the week 2 paper helped me develop in this class because it taught me patience and it taught me how to listen to others, as well as ask for help if needed. The
concept of cultural competence that I read about in Week 4 helped me understand how to communicate with others and how to communicate fairly. Plan for Developing Writing Skills
In one to two paragraphs, discuss your plan for meeting the challenge of developing your writing skills to be better prepared for applications in your field. Reference your research from the Week 3 discussion board about what types of writing you may need to do in the future.
Vision in Five Years
In one to two paragraphs, produce a clear vision of where you will be in five years and
how your experience and skills have shaped that development. Refer to your unique experiences
and specific skills to help chart this path forward.
Conclusion
End the paper with a strong conclusion to restate the thesis and leave the readers with a good impression about your topic.
NOTE
: The
quotes should not exceed 15–20% of your paper. I need to hear your voice and interpretation.
