This writing assignment helped identify and guide me on how to navigate through these functions in MS project. This writing assignment puts one as the manager at Lucerne Publishing.
This assignment presented me with 4 different .mpp files to be used during the process:
Simple Assign Work Resources
The first .mpp file that will be used is SimpleAssignWorkResource, ready to make initial resource assignments in the new book launch plan. We are able see initial cost and duration calculations of the plan. Also, we were able to use the Summary table in Task Usage which after
adjusting and adding all the necessary tabs we get this displayed:
We can notice is that the duration of this plan of the project is 41 days. These changes are based on how resources are managed during the process. After obtaining this screen we will change back the Gantt View.

Back in the Gantt view, we open the Assign Resource dialog box to add Mr. Carole Poland to task 2. Doing this causes the cost of task 2 to change due to Mr. Carole Poland needing
to be paid. We then use the same technique to add Mr. Toni Poe to task 3. Mr. Jun Cao is allocated to task 4 and Mr. Toby Nixon is added to task 5. We assign Toby Nixon to task 5 using
the Assign Resource dialog box. This dialog box is used to add Mr. Toby Nixon and Ms. Sharon Salavaria to task 8, displayed below:
The Assign Resource dialog box is setup that MS Project remembers Ms. Sharon Salavaria is a part-time worker, it causes her Units go down to 50% while Mr. Toby Nixon stays at 100% which we know from the previous writing assignments.
The last way that a resource is allocated to a task in this project is by writing down the name of the resource in the Resource Name Ms. Jane Dow and Mr. Zac Woodall are place in

charge of task 9 this way and Mr. Zac Woodall is also place in charge of task 10 as seen below:
Simple Assign Control Work
The second .mpp file by opening the Assign Resource dialog box, we can add Zac Woodall to task 5 allowing him and Mr. Toby Nixon oversee that task by clicking the action
button we increase the work, but the duration is not affected. We can see this by looking at the chart in Gantt view and noticing the timeline has not changed for task 5.
We remove Zac from task 9 and again click the action button to increase the duration and
keep the same amount of work on being done on that task. In task 10 we have to active the effort-driven scheduling, and this is can be done by opening the task information dialog box. The
last thing to do is to add Ms. Hany Morcos to task 10. This is done with the Assign Resource which has been use before in the project and we see this:
This time both Hany and Zac are at 100% since they both are full time workers; The main
thing that I got from this part of the assignment was the extent to which resources can move from
one task to another. Zac moves from one task to another. Simple Assign Cost Resource
Now we start a different type of resource which is travel since the other resources already
have their pay rate set while this one doesn’t so, we must add that in the Assign Resource dialog box. We search for the travel resource and then for cost we add the $800.

Adding this resource does not affect the duration of the project, it just affects the cost which is just an expense that comes from running a project and needs to be accounted for.
Simple Assign Check Plan
To get a picture of the project details, durations, cost, after adjusting the Task Usage View to the right size for this computer we see this picture
After everything done to the plan, we see that the duration now is 36 days instead of the 41 days and the cost is $19,740 after adding all required expenses we open the resource usage view with the summary table to see how much we have spent now and hours worked.
Conclusion
In conclusion we started with the basic outline of the project and after adding all the required resources for this project we can to successfully the changes in duration and cost. It went from 41 days completion time to 36 days and the cost goes up. We are also able to see where we are with the project now and who will work on each task. Questions
