The article that I have chosen for my term-long critical analysis project is “
Eat Turkey, Become American
” by Marie Myung-Ok Lee (2014). I believe the authors purpose for this article
is life can be difficult as immigrants but no matter how much you are bullied or tried to be forced
out of your home that life is still better than your previous one. She states that her parents moved here and no matter how many times people would drive by and yell “Chink!” or when the kids were bullied at school, they still considered themselves as Americans because what American has done for them by giving them a visa and getting them out of the less fortunate situation, they were in (Lee, 2014)
. The author is talking to Immigrants and anyone that has everyday encounters with immigrants. She is trying to get the point across that People should not stereotype people that are
just trying to make a better life for them and their family. She is also trying to make the point that as immigrants new thing can be scary, but you should adapt to your new countries customs and courtesies to make the change feel more normal for you and your family. The author is telling people to adapt to their new lifestyle as much as possible and that could bring challenges with their audience because people do not like change, and it is hard to change your entire lifestyle just because you are in an unfamiliar environment.
