How to Analyze an Expository Essay Expository writing, in general, is present everywhere. When you pick up a magazine or examine a newspaper article on the newsstand, you are reading a form of exposition because the author's main purpose of writing that article or essay is to inform the reader about a topic. In the classroom, many students are required to produce research papers about a specific topic, such as migration patterns of birds. The purpose of that research paper is to inform the reader, the teacher, about what are the migratory patterns of birds. Finally, at the workplace, many people are required to create business reports and memorandums to inform their supervisors and co–workers about the company's finances and progress. In order to analyze these expository ...show more content... "Good" directions for a process essay should satisfy the following criteria: clear, concise, organized, and acknowledges common mistakes. Within the model essay itself, it satisfies all of these requirements. The text describes, "when you find water becoming extremely hot (or cold)," the homeowner suggests that the guest, "exit the tub promptly while using a sweeping motion with one arm to push shower curtain aside"(Frazier 303). This piece of direction is clear because it plainly informs the guest on the actual action they have to perform in order to prevent hot or cold water from burning or freezing the guest. It is also concise because it does not include any irrelevant information pertaining to avoiding burning or freezing the guest. This essay is organized because when the author listed out his or her directions, he or she listed them out in chronological order. Lastly, "How to Operate the Shower Curtain" acknowledges common mistakes, such as "REMEMBER TO KEEP SHOWER CURTAIN INSIDE TUB AT ALL TIMES!" (Frasier 303). The author is cautioning the guest to keep the shower curtain within the bath tub no matter what. The reason for determining the kind of expository essay it is to help in determining the purpose of the exposition as a whole. Next, the third step to analyzing an expository essay is to perform the Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Essay on Wildfires A wildfire is any instance of uncontrolled burning in grasslands, brush, or woodlands. Wildfires destroy property and valuable natural resources, and may threaten the lives of people and animals. Wildfires can occur at any time of the year, but usually occur during hot, dry weather. Wildfires are usually signaled by dense smoke which may fill the air for miles around. The National Weather Service, U.S. Forest Service, and State forestry agencies combine to give wildfire probability forecasts. Local radio and television stations broadcast information and warnings on local fire conditions. Wildfires pose an increasing threat to the residential United States. In 1987, 53,000 fires consumed more than two million acres. By October 1988, almost ...show more content... On the actual day of the fire, the fire planners will again check such conditions as wind and moisture content in the vegetation. The wind direction will determine where the fire is started. Fire crews start the burn with a device called a drip torch. A drip torch is a can of fuel with a flame–carrying wick at the end. When the crewmember tilts the wick toward the ground, a flame streams out and ignites the vegetation. Most of the effort that goes into a prescribed fire is making sure that it is contained in the boundaries set for the fire. Firefighters and fire suppression equipment are near the site if the fire grows out of control (www.nps.gov/wica/fir–why.html, pgs. 1–3). While not all the effects of prescribed burns are known some are very evident. The first of these common effects is that vegetation and fallen dead material are burned creating an open forest floor. This eliminates any fuel that could contribute to a high intensity fire in the future. When the fire burns the organic material in the forest, nutrient rich ash is left behind. When the first rain comes, the nutrients in the ash dissolve into the soil for the new plants to use. This process is called nutrient recycling. These nutrients left in the soil are a good source of food for the young plants that will begin to grow back. Another outcome of prescribed fire is that new growth begins immediately after the fires have been extinguished. Within Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Expository Essay Rough Draft Expository Essay: Rough Draft Everyone can feel, just like you and I, but there's one important question that lingers through the air. Should we really be accepting of other people? To answer the question, yes! Although this does speak from opinion, it's essential to be accepting of others. It's understandable to find laboriousness when looking through others, but we need to remember the reasons why it's imperative. To start off, we're all the same! We're all people, but sometimes, we seem to overlook that part of us. We all process the same way, and I feel as if that's a good enough reason to find acceptance. Something else to remember is that we all have emotions. When we don't accept eachother for who we are, our emotions can get Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Essay on malaria It is one of the ten deadliest diseases of all time. It effects men, women, children, and animals. It is in full force in Africa, India, Asia, China, South America, and the Caribbean. This disease is malaria. Nearly 40 percent of the world's population lives in areas that are effected by the disease. Malaria is a serious, infectious disease spread by certain mosquitoes . It is caused by infection with the Plasmodium genus of the protozoan parasite. More than one hundred species of this parasite exist. It is capable of infecting reptiles , birds, rodents, and primates. Four species infect human beings, the most common being P.vivax and P. falciparum. ...show more content... The period between the two is usually 8 and 12 days for falciparum malaria, and up to a month for other types. Symptoms from some strains of P.Vivax may not be seen for up to 8–10 months. The primary symptom of all types of malaria is the "malaria ague" (chills and fever). In most cases the fever has three stages. Uncontrollable shivering for an hour or two, followed by a rapid rise in temperature as high as (106 degrees) which lasts for three hours. Then just as suddenly the patient begins to sweat profusely. Other symptoms may include fatigue, severe headache, or nausea and vomiting. As the sweat goes away the patient feels weak and falls asleep. In many cases this cycle of chills, fever, and sweating occurs every other day, or they may last for between a week and a month. Those with the chronic form of malaria may have a relapse as long as 50 years after the initial infection. Falciparum malaria is far more severe than other types of malaria because the parasite attacks all red blood cells, not just the young or old cells, as do other types. It causes the red blood cells to become very "sticky". A patient with this type can die within hours of the first symptoms. The fever is prolonged. So many red blood cells are destroyed that they block the blood vessels in vital organs (especially the kidneys) and the spleen can become enlarged. There may be brain damage, Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Expository Essay: Chapter 1-6 The chapter starts off with a quote by one of the greatest poets, Robert Frost, and he says, "But God's own descent into flesh was meant as a demonstration" (Yancey 127). When I read the whole quote, I was really confused. I did not understand it. The first three lines, however, I could understand. God became human, which could be a demonstration. He took on the form of flesh because he wanted to show the world that the Savior was here to save us. The only way he can save us is if he became one of us. Therefore, God becoming a human could be a demonstration. I agree with Yancey when he wonders how different the world would be if Jesus did not resurrect from the dead (128). Would Christianity still exist today? Would the apostles still be afraid of spreading the Good News? There are so many questions about what would happen if Jesus did not resurrect himself from the dead, but those questions will never be answered because Jesus did resurrect from the dead and saved us. One thing I found interesting in this chapter was when an angel asked the apostles, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky?" (Yancey 129). I would be dumbfounded like the apostles if I witnessed Jesus ascending into the sky. It would have looked so cool, but I understand why the apostles were actually ...show more content... This quote could not be truer. The apostles will become targets once Jesus ascends. They will be ridiculed, mocked, and persecuted because of the things they preached and believed. Despite all of this, the apostles persevered and spread the Good News until the very end. When I saw the quote, one thing came to my mind the most. All of the apostles except one died violent deaths because the apostles they would not stop preaching. That made me realize Jesus' words were so true, and Jesus knew what was going to happen to his Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Essay about One Event Changed Everything One Event Changed Everything "Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results." –Anon. After living in a place I loved for eleven years, I did not think that I would be able to have the same feelings or emotions towards another place. I was not the most outgoing person at that time. I was quiet, shy, and kept to myself. But before I knew it, I had plans to go out with a group of girls from my math class. They thought that I was a very nice girl and allowed me to join their circle of friends. After that, we were always together; they were my three new best friends. We went to movies, parties, and just hung out at each other's houses. I felt wanted for the first time since I moved away from my friends in Arizona. By the end of junior year I was prepared for cheerleading tryouts. I did not know what was to come of my tryouts, since I was going to be a new senior trying out for varsity, but my family was behind me the whole time. During tryouts I met a lot of amazing girls. I was starting to feel like that is what I was meant to do which made me confident. The afternoon came when the team was posted. There were 23 girls trying out for 19 spots on the team; there would only be 4 cut. Then I went up, looked down the list of names, and there I was, "Janessa Dukeshier". It was one of the happiest moments of my life. The first person I called up was my mom, who kept telling me that I would be fine and that I was a great cheerleader. She was very proud of me. By the end of that day I had called all of my friends back home in Glendale to tell them the good news. Everyone knew I had it in me and could do it. Coronary Artery Disease Essay Coronary Artery Disease, also known as CAD, is the most common form of heart disease. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Coronary Artery Disease obstructs the blood flow in vessels that provides blood to the heart which is caused by the buildup of plaque on the artery walls. (Rogers, 2011, p.87) ( Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque is a yellow substance that consists of fat substances, like cholesterol, and narrows or clogs the arteries which prevents blood flow. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Some surgical procedures used to treat CAD are angioplasty and coronary artery bypass surgery. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) The angioplasty surgery is when your doctor inserts a catheter to the blockage in the artery and threads the wire through the narrowed arteries. (Opening blocked coronary arteries: New questions about the old answer, nd., p.2) Once the balloon is in place, at the sight of the blockage, the balloon inflates which causes the plaque to crack and the artery to become free from blockage. (Opening blocked coronary arteries: New questions about the old answer, nd., p.2) The other surgical opinion for CAD is coronary artery bypass surgery is a procedure done by a doctor using a graft. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) The doctor will construct a graft to direct the blood flow around the blockage using existing blood vessels in the body. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Due to the fact that this procedure requires open heart surgery, it is usually used for patients with several partial or full blockages. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Coronary Artery Disease can be prevented by controlling your blood pressure, diabetes and blood cholesterol. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Other ways to lower your risk of developing CAD is by eating healthy foods low in fat, being active, not smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, lessen the stress you Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

The Importance Of Expository Reading Expository text is a very important form of reading material that is used to present content in different ways. Starting as early as kindergarten, children should be able to identify the main topic, ask and answer questions, and describe connections between two different pieces of information (Roehling, Hebert, Nelson, Bohaty, 2017). Teachers have problems with students reading expository text. It is sometimes more difficult to read than just regular story reading. Hebert, Bohaty, Nelson, and Brown conducted a meta–analysis on text structure instruction, concluding that it was an effective way to improve expository reading comprehension (Roehling, Hebert, Nelson, Bohaty, 2017). Different strategies were developed to help with understanding expository reading comprehension. Teachers play a big role in helping the students understand. They have to begin with clear learning objectives that outlines the skills teachers want their students to demonstrate by the end of the instruction (Roehling, Hebert, Nelson, Bohaty, 2017). Once the teacher decides on the learning objective, they can plan specific instructional strategies to help students achieve the objectives. If there is a clear goal from the teacher, things will be easier on the students. Identification strategies is a good start in recognizing the structure of an expository text. There are two possible goals of identification strategies: to recognize a single text structure or to discriminate among several possible text Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
The Digital Age Essay The Digital Age The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format, possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality; all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be duplicated, changed, or processed ...show more content... The information created will be able to be shared by anyone with a computer . The power base that the digital age relies on for existence, is technology. The rapid developing technology is absolutely necessary for the digital age to exist. Without super powerful microchips, and high bandwidth transfer wires, the digital age would be a figment of our imagination. Digital technology is computer based, so the millions of calculations per second, and ability to transfer large amounts of data over long distances are absolutely necessary. Without computers, the data might be collected; but there would be nothing to process and transfer the information. When new technology is invented, it is sometimes distributed to a society that might not be ready for it. Few corporations consider this and are only interested in spreading their product to the consumer as soon as possible. New technology is often flawed and taken advantage of by individuals who know how to manipulate it. This is a considerably large problem when dealing with digital technology. Digital information is not a three dimension tangible object. So it is easily tampered with and destroyed without people noticing. When the damage is finally noticed, the party responsible is usually untraceable and in a completely different area of the world to begin with. The potential value of this new technology seems almost Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

International Students Essay example Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. International students have to learn a new language to study, they cannot work while studying, and their tuition is much more expensive. When people moves to the United Stated to study they ...show more content... They know their structure and have a very superior vocabulary, so they can compose excellent essays. In addition, since American students speak English very well, they do not have any problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is not going to have any problem speaking the language. For example, last semester a friend from Venezuela who is studying at Miami Dade College decided that he wanted to get a job in order to have his own money. Frankenstein and the Epistolary Novel Form Q: "Examine the effect of the epistolary form of writing throughout the novel Frankenstein. Do you think the epistolary novel form of writing are an effective form of telling the story? How does the epistolary form affect plot development and character development?" Mary Shelly, the author of the novel Frankenstein , writes Frankenstein in epistolary form which is an effective way of integrating the reader into the story, introducing writer bias [character development], and furthering the theme of communication. The epistolary form of writing allows the reader to feel as if they are receiving an actual account of the story. This type of writing makes the reader feel as if the character is writing to them. The plot seems more realistic and ...show more content... Walton's final decision to turn back after listening to his crew also mitigates the harshness of Victor Frankenstein's story. The epistolary structure of the novel and the subsequent use of multiple narrators forces the reader to judge for themselves what is true and what is dramatized from the letters. Due to the story being retold from the point of view of Victor the reader is more likely to understand why Victor and Walton deem the monster a malevolent and insensitive brute. (Favert 1) We must begin to read Frankenstein more as a well–wrought "baggy monster" of correspondences, and less as a singular, alien phenomenon. If we read it as an interactive combination of tales, rather than one linear narrative, we can refrain from casting the novelist into the narrow role of a "young girl" with "so very hideous an idea." Frankenstein is Mary Shelley's novel; it is no more her story than Walton's, Victor's or the monster's. Within the text, the various narrators slide from their own stories into the histories of others, and with each movement, we are asked to extend our "willing suspension of disbelief." As the novel multiplies its story–tellers and listeners, it renews the problem of narrative authority. Whose story do we believe? –– the novel defuses such a question. The fantastic nature of the stories preclude rational explanation or judgment, and we do not, Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Expository Writing Rough Draft On School Kirk Zimmer Expository Writing Rough Draft Everything Wrong With School In 10 Minutes or Less! When I was twelve, I had no appreciation for school. I saw it as nothing more as a glorified daycare center with all the rules and regulations specifically designed to restrict as much fun as possible. Then one day in the ninth grade, I had a revelation: what if school was actually meant to build me up with knowledge and facts and not just waste my time? This was the foundation I needed to get me through the next four years. Whenever I was bored, I would remind myself that I 'd never have a "free" education like this again. I adapted particularly well to this system of tests, quizzes, and science labs but I could never understand the hang up some people had with it. School was basic and easy and all it seemed to require was consistency an+d proper scheduling. I looked at people who couldn 't understand US History or Geometry and I thought they were dumb. It wasn 't until much later with much more reflection that I came to conclude there 's a difference between how you score on the SATs and how smart you actually are. Education isn 't necessarily a direct line to becoming intelligent and knowledgeable; education is nothing more than an institution designed to equip people with subsets of specialized processing methodologies, algorithms, and a fair bit of esoteric trivia. Furthermore, the current educational system in place is inefficient because of its rigid nature. The current Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Technology in the Classroom Essay example Technology in the Classroom Technology is everywhere and used in every part of life. Practically every job uses some form of technology. It is important for students to learn how to use technology in order to function in this technology–based country. But it is also extremely important for students to learn using technology. Technology has the capability of opening all students eyes to a world of mathematics that they never before could have even began to imagine or understand. The U.S Department of Education is developing a plan, The National Education Technology Plan, to incorporate technology properly into the classroom. The goal of this plan is to improve student learning and to prepare students for the world we live in ...show more content... (NCTM). Using technology in the classroom is a sensitive issue. It is the teacher?s responsibility to know when it is appropriate to use technology and when it is not. Students will not be able to learn and understand mathematics, if they never have a solid foundation to start from. For example, students may know how to graph an equation on a calculator and determine the zeros, but if they were never taught how to algebraically solve the equation or how to hand graph the equation, do they really understand and know how to solve an equation? It is the teacher?s role to give students the opportunity to learn a topic, and it is technology?s role to help students expand and deepen that knowledge. Not all topics should be taught in the ?teaching first, then technology? format. Sometimes it is necessary to use technology in the teaching process. Technology can enhance the teaching process, which in turn increases student learning. Teachers can use computers and projectors to help students visualize geometric shapes. Programs like The Geometer?s Sketchpad allow students and teachers to manipulate shapes and see how different things (area, perimeter, angles, etc.) are effected. After students hand graph an equation, a teacher could project the graph onto the board in order for students to check their work. Technology can Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Liberal Arts Education Essay A liberal arts education is one that, by definition, focuses not on one specific subject, but rather prepares its student by giving them knowledge in many areas and developing the student's critical thinking that will allow them to adapt to an ever–changing world. Naturally, this means students at a university that employs a liberal arts education take classes outside their major. Students of the humanities or social sciences must enroll in courses of mathematics and natural sciences, and while many find no joy in such requirements, they better the individual and are helpful in everyday life, as well as in larger issues. As Crane and Chiles so eloquently write, specifically of science, "Science matters at a liberal–arts university because the problems facing our global community will not be solved by scientists alone." Mathematics as a subject acts in a similar way, giving skills to students, non–mathematics majors included, to help in their everyday lives or potentially to help the world. ...show more content... To do that, Chopp argues that "What you have to do is to learn the very tools of learning itself. The liberal arts are...the gold standard for that" (qtd. in Goral). Students, particularly those in the humanities and social sciences, are thus offered different methods of learning when classes stretch beyond their major. As is an essential part of a liberal arts education, this breadth of knowledge enhances the critical and intellectual thinking of students that otherwise might not have had the opportunity to do so. The creativity and pursuit of knowledge encouraged by non–STEM majors has much to offer to solve the problems of the world, and a basic understanding of mathematics and sciences means that these problems seem much more understandable, their solutions more Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Reflection Of Expository Writing Erwyn Suruy December 9, 2017 Eng 111 Reflective Essay I have been taking Expository Writing for 4 months. I have found that I need to be able to communicate myself in writing. I must relay exactly what I'm trying to put forth to others and convey the right message of understanding. I must be able to explain myself, negotiate, and work in teams. My language skills can be worked on and improved. I need to be able to pick up the language of whatever environment I'm in whether it be at work or school, or in society. Since everyone does not have the same background, learning how to write the written word is important in any environment. I have learned how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find answers to things I do not know. Most important I have learned how to believe in my writing . I was very hesitant in taking this English class, I have not taken an English class in many years. When I took the placement test for reading and English, I tested out of all categories. I was proud of myself for that feat. When I found I was going to have to take a college level English class, I avoided it at all costs. Too much pressure. However, I have learned about the Rhetorical Essay was to understand how an author writes and not focus on what the content is. Knowing the explanation of what techniques and author uses to make their point come across to the intended audience. I learned about Argumentative Research Paper is to debate both sides of an issue. The intent is to be unbiased and state the facts on either side. I learned about Public Piece with Presentation is meant to deliver an effective presentation to engage your audience. Your audience listens to not only what you are saying but your visual engagement in the topic being presented. Also, the point of the class is to be able to work with others to achieve a desired outcome or task. To know that I can work with others in a cohesive environment to draw on everyone's input and views. This will assist me in the real work of life and assist in handling many types of people and myself in communicating. I have never been a good writer; however, I have learned that communication is not the same when writing. Having a conversation about aliens Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
