Surname, 1 Student's First and Last Name: Class and Section: Date: Professor's Name: Set Z Question 2: Are we in danger of losing our humanity to technologies like artificial intelligence? Why or why not? Explain. Loss of Humanity to Technologies like Artificial Intelligence Introduction New technological advancement has led to the creation of written generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT and GPT-4, slowly eroding the human sense of effective communication and originality in the creative literary process. Human beings are social creatures, and communication is a key factor in the social setting. Technology advancement has led to new ways of polishing up writing and improving written literary papers. Written communication has improved the keeping of history records, which are referenced by the present, to effectively diversify the original thoughts. Creative writing is a deep discussion that is being argued of not being an actual original but an improved version of recorded works. In the article “What Happens When ChatGPT Starts to Feed On Its Writing?" by Samuel, he states that Shakespeare was recreating old, comic love stories about lovers who were star-crossed from the past, and he seemed to suspect as much by writing, "there be nothing new, but that which is hath been before," a quote from the bible (2023). As this cannot be further from the truth, generative AI removes the aspect of diversity and flexibility when it comes to creativity. Most companies that create generative AI tools use a standard language of communication, making writing seem
Surname, 2 homogenous and flattening its intrigue. Generative AI is affecting human communication and literary processes by creating a homogenous system of communication that prevents diversity and flexibility of expression and thought. In creative writing, the writer must explore all possible avenues of their creative thought and how they want to tackle the topic. A tool like ChatGPT removes the element of creativity in the process by giving clues to the words, phrases, and even sentences that should come next. This extends even further to essays, which rob writers of the human aspect of originality and an individual's form of communication, in turn affecting the cognitive "muscle" strength (Sidal, 2023). Most writers, including the author, fear job security, which runs the risk of bringing up a stagnated literary society. Human beings communicate through writing or speech so we understand each other better, and universal communication, like laughter, diversifies throughout cultures and people. In Poet Ali's speech, "The Language of Being Human ," he introduces the audience to different languages, and the entire audience does not seem to understand him, but once he speaks in English, everyone's expression changes (2020). ChatGPT and other generative AI tools communicate effectively using a single language, bringing up a homogenous literary culture. Anglo-centrism is one of the most significant issues that constricts human nature and narrowing down to specific language and culture in the world is the generative AI's use of English only, which tightens writers to a single line of communication which promotes Western civilization only enhancing the homogenizing effect of globalization. Generative AI usage risks creating a homogenous society that lacks diversity and is conditioned to literary works generated by artificial intelligence. One of the effects is algorithmic monoculture, which affects how we usually think and directs the line of thought in a specific way. Sidal highlights that people run generative AI through written drafts to edit and make the
Surname, 3 paper more grammatically sound for the reader, which turns out to be a fool's errand as people end up rewriting the whole paper using the AI-generated format and content. This tarnishes the role of the content creator or the editor since generative AI has accomplished its work and contaminates the writer's work through outside influence. Generative AI is reshaping writing skills by affecting creativity and originality with the work done to society. Generative AI runs work through previous works, and some of the works it runs a cross-check through are products of its own making. As time goes by, the generative AI will sift through most of its work, creating a homogenous pattern among writers and making the quality of work essential and uninteresting. This will alter a writer's original perspective and drive them to a different linguistic realm that the writer is not accustomed to (Sidal, 2023). Communication in other cultures is expressed in different ways and is altered when given a unilateral approach (Poet Ali, 2020). Generative AI does not appreciate the different forms of communication across different cultures and creates anxiety about its influence on the incoming generation. Generative AI companies should start to retool and adjust their suite, such as ChatGPT, to be inclusive in different literary forms across different cultures to avoid anglocentrism. Different cultures communicate differently with alternate expressions that do not follow the rules of English literature. This will revolutionize the effect of globalization since these AI tools have generated massive usage from writers, scholars, and professionals globally and will feel more inclusive of different cultures. ChatGPT's ability to generate predictive phrases and statements that are likely to be used creates a predictive outcome for the writer and the literary experience by the reader. In Sidal’s opinion, generative AI companies should make an option of least predictive since creativity is about delivering what is least expected and creating flexibility in writing. Generative AI companies should revise the fact-checking programs of the AI on running

Surname, 4 checks through written works. With most people publishing generative AI works, the generative AI tool should look for outside sources to reference the work. Individuals who write professionally, academically, and artistically risk interfering with their creativity and the diverse nature of literary explorations while being homogenous by using generative AI to communicate better in writing.
