Instructional Plan Template INSTRUCTIONAL SETTING Your Name: ShyQayla Brown Grade Level, Population, or Professional Environment: 5 th Grade Number of Learners: 25 Theme: Importance of water conservation Subject Area: Science THE BIG IDEA I learned that making small changes in our everyday habits and behaviors may greatly influence conserving and protecting our water supply. For example, conserving water by turning off the tap whilst brushing our teeth, as well as decreasing plastic waste may assist in conserving our water clean and accessible for future generations. GENERAL CONTENT OBJECTIVES FOR THE LESSON: By the end of the lesson, students would: Categorize different sources of water, as well as their uses. Comprehend the significance of water conservation. INTRODUCTION TO THE LESSON (THE PREVIEW PHASE)
Procedure to Hook Learners: To engross learners in the topic, I will demonstrate to them a short video regarding the significance of water and the impact of scarcity on communities. I will then write a short response describing the importance of water cleanup in our watershed and why water is crucial for all living things. Materials: The video on water scarcity and conservation. Markers, papers, and pencils for the writing response. Specific Content Objective: Content objective is connected to the big idea by emphasizing the importance of water conservation and strategies to conserve watersheds through cleanup exercises. Using action verbs, the objective is realistic, specific, measurable, and achievable. Procedure: Learners will watch the video regarding the significance of water and the impacts of water scarcity. I will introduce the lesson plan's content objectives and explain to learners how they will partner with peers to develop a water cleanup and conservation plan. Learners would engage in diverse activities, comprising discussions, as well as hands-on activities to learn about sources of water. Learners will be grouped in pairs besides small groups of 3-4 members for discussion and activities. Groups would be heterogeneous to encourage peer learning and collaboration. BODY OF THE LESSON (THE FOCUSED LEARNING PHASE) Learning Activities: 1. Preactvity: Learners will participate in a short quiz regarding their understanding and misconceptions regarding water.
2. During activity: Learners would watch a video and discuss the significance of water preservation and the effect of water scarcity. 3. Postactivity: Learners will develop a water conservation and cleanup plan with their peers, brainstorming and explaining ways to conserve water daily. AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT (THE APPLICATION PHASE) Project: The project for my authentic assessment will be a watershed cleanup project. Learners will work in small groups to identify a local watershed in the community, investigate its significance, present threats and challenges, and create a plan to clean up and protect the identified watershed. The learners will present their plans to the class. Materials: Research materials, including books and internet access, markers, poster board, and presentation materials (like digital presentations or physical models). Content Objective(s): 1. Learners will demonstrate their understanding of water's importance and the need for water protection and conservation. 2. Identify human activities that may harm our water sources and their environmental effect. 3. Recommend strategies to conserve and protect our water supply. Procedure: The instructor will introduce the watershed concept to learners and their significance and facilitate a discussion concerning the big ideas studied during the lesson. Learners will then work in small groups to investigate, as well as create their watershed cleanup plans. The learners will then present the designed cleanup plans to the class, integrating the information learned during the lesson. Grouping Configuration: Learners will work in small groups of 3-4 members. The groups would be heterogeneous to boost collaboration and peer learning.

Part 4: Instructional plan challenges One main challenge I encountered while drafting my instructional plan was determining the suitable amount of information and detail to incorporate into the content objectives. I had to consider the balance between being too broad and not presenting sufficient direction for the authentic assessment. Moreover, developing specific and age-appropriate big ideas for the lesson was challenging because I needed to ensure they were relevant and thought-provoking for the 5 th -grade learners.
