Example Of A Personal Memoir
I was born on a cold October morning, well that is something my mother always told me. Perhaps,
that is one of the many reasons why I enjoy cold days and drinking coffee. I have live my whole life
in Chicago, but I do have dreams of moving somewhere else. My family consisted of my father,
mother, and sister, who is my twin, for eighteen years. However, in the past month a new family
member got added, Toma Heroine Touka, my kitten. It is a really funny story how she came to be
added to my family. It all started when I told my dad "If Germany wins that World Cup, then he
should get me a cat." My dad took it as a joke, but accepted it. Time passed and I saw that I would
never get a cat that I can call my own. It was around late November when

Reading Memoir Research Paper
Reading Memoir My earliest reading moments we're listening to Television and cartoons. I'm not
sure if that counts as reading but I was learning words at that time well hearing the words. I do
remember reading books like Junie B. Jones and If you give a moose a muffin.Beginning my
kindergarten year, I only read books that had pictures in it, that was the only way to keep my
attention. Young at that age I was thinking why read the books if you can just scan through the pages
with pictures and get the understanding of the book. The teacher would always encourage us to read
books and pronounce the words out but I refused to read or even look at book without pictures until
I was forced to go to the bookstore with my grandma. That day as a kid

I began to have troubles with math, so my main focus was trying to get a better understanding of it
even though It was just something I didn't want to learn. I became lazy with subjects anything that
involved reading I would just push to the side. Once I started 8th grade I begin to realize that I
would need Reading to excel to highschool and it took me far too long to realize that. I didn't have
any excuses on why I didn't like math or reading, my parents use to encourage to start reading books
again and remind of the times I read in elementary school but I explained to them that you cannot
compare elementary books to middle They are two different levels. I was growing up from my old
interests. Today I still don't enjoy reading books, especially not if they have a movie version. I know
reading books make you smarter as a reader and they increases your vocabulary. But honestly
reading books seems like a big hassle, For me reading is hard to enjoy, that's like pinching me with a
needle I would get agitated quickly. I believe it was Gilbert K. Chesterton once said: "There is a
great deal of difference between an eager man who wants to read a book and the tired man who

My Memoir
My Memoir
Broken. My world is crashing before my eyes. How will any of this ever be okay again? Oh, that's
right. It won't. Let me explain. It all started going downhill in February 2017. My best friend, my
inspiration, my grandpa was ill. Over the next few months he got weaker. He wasn't able to do
anything on his own. He couldn't walk, eat, drink, shower, you name it, he couldn't do it. It was
honestly and truly, the hardest thing i've ever had to watch. You go from seeing your hero funny,
energetic, strong, and happy to weak, lifeless, and sad. Skip forward a little bit more and he was put
into the hospital in May. I wasn't able to visit him because every time I'd start to go, I'd have a panic
attack. I was finally able to visit him June 1st. At this time, he had been in and out of the hospital at
least 4 times. When I visited, as soon as I walked in, I smelled antiseptic and latex gloves. Just like a
hospital would smell. It was a wonderful hospital though, there was a pianist that was playing jazz
in the lobby. My grandpa loved it. When we visited, we cherished every bonding moment, laughing
moment, and sad moment knowing we wouldn't have much more time with him. All the memories
that night were worth keeping ahold of. I remember so clearly that as I walked into his hospital
room, he saw me, and I got the biggest smile I've ever seen from anyone. It brought tears to my
eyes. With that smile I saw the dehydration on him. His lips were cracking, dry,

Zinsser How To Write A Memoir Analysis
In How to Write a Memoir, Zinsser describes a method that he thinks will be useful for those who
are trying to write a memoir. There are many tips and helpful ideas in the article that people would
want to read. In Soul Surfer, Bethany Hamilton appears to have used some of the same method that
Zinsser describes. In Bethany Hamilton's Soul Surfer there are many similarities and differences
compared to what Zinsser describes in How to Write a Memoir. There are multiple similarities
between Soul Surfer and How to Write a Memoir. In How to Write a Memoir Zinsser said that a
memoir should have smaller or less–important details about your life, instead of the larger more
action packed things. Zinsser states, "Many of the chapters in my book are

My Memoir Experience
The process of completing my memoir has been difficult, but fulfilling at the same time. It was
difficult to figure out what topics I wanted to write about. I really wanted to dig deep into myself
and write about topics that would change me. The prompts given to me about writing about your pet
or funniest moment weren't very appealing to me. I wanted to write about something that was
difficult to write about, but would help me at the same time. Some of the topics I choose were a
challenge because I was explaining meaningful things that I've never put in words before. My
hardest topics included my first relationship, a significant person in my life, and my scariest
moment. On the other hand, I enjoyed writing about how I got my name, appreciating

The Memoir Craze Summary
The Memoir Craze edited by Lee Gutkind, and Hattie Fletcher.
The main point of this article is that now readers are not only interested in memoirs from important
public figures, or movies stars, but they also want to read true life stories about ordinary people that
are not famous. Also, the article asserts that many people were not famous until they wrote their
own memoirs. The article criticizes the critics by saying they are missing the reasons these pieces
are so important, and popular with readers. This genres audience is interested in how ordinary
people over–come obstacles, especially with humorist antics. Creative non–
fiction stories can be as
entertaining as any fiction story. People are surprised that the "nobody" memoirs are so popular,

Figurative Language Of The Memoir
The Memoir is different compared to the other essays we did over the course of the first semester.
This essay required us to write about our ourselves, while the other essays focused on a single story.
In this memoir, we used more personification to describe objects. We used metaphors, similes, and
figurative language to advance the plot. Speaking about plot, we had to use a n incident in our life as
a plot for our story. On the other essays, there was no plot. We write about what is the theme of the
story and provide facts to back it up. The memoir on the other hand is more complexed. We had to
use plot development. We had to create our exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and
finally resolution. The memoir was more of a story,

Maya Van Zinsser Memoir
In Zinsser's "How to write a Memoir" it gives very specific advice for a memoir writers. He gives
great suggestions such as "Be yourself, "Tell your own story," and think small" (2,4,6). These
suggestions encourage writers to think about how they would want to tell their story as much as they
want to say. Some of his memoirs seem to follow his guidelines and some of the books don't. In her
memoir popular. Maya Van Wagenen supports Zinsser's writing ideas throughout her use of a child's
point of view, an honest storytelling, and a structure of small memoires. Zinsser said "The best
memoirs are written from the point of view from a child. Maya Wagenen, memoir says," because I

Memoir about My Life and Achievements
Introduction Hundred years are a complete century and a 100 years old man experiences many ups
and downs of life in this complete period so many times with different intervals. I am at this age
right now, when I think about past and remember old times then I feel happy and sometimes sad too.
When I think about my awards and achievements then I become happy and emotional because of
having soft heart. Today at the age of 100, I am feeling blessed and happy because of so many
reasons such as self–determination that helped me to achieve. The determination can be developed
when one sets rules, principles and objectives in my life through positive thinking. It is not possible
to achieve anything without clear objectives, targets and proper planning. In this old age, I do not
feel old and lazy. In fact, I am really motivated and enthusiastic and because of this level of spirit I
have lived a long life. The spirit of hard work and positivity always helps people to pass a long
happy life. The description of achievements and ways of achievements may help people sometime.
It is a real pleasure to write about life accomplishments because many people may need to know
how to lead a long life and a complete doctorate degree in the field of business management. There
are so many things that I am sharing in this memoir such as my academic as well professional
achievements, my practical experiences, and targets that I focused in my life and procedures of
getting to those achievements.

The taste of tears was as if sadness could be a flavor. I don 't want him to go. I didn 't even care how
selfish it was of me, I didn 't want to lose him. All I knew was that in less than 24 hours, I wouldn 't
have my best friend with me anymore. A few hours later, when everyone was talking amongst
themselves, I found myself at the side of the hospital bed. I gently grabbed his hand, trying to
remember what it would feel like so I could always feel like he was with me. "It's ok to let go,
Papaw." I said. He knew I wasn 't talking about letting go of my hand. "I won 't be mad, I promise
you. I'll be ok, and you 'll feel better." I whispered, as a tear slowly fell down my cheek. He
squeezed my hand. I know it 's crazy but in that moment, during that hand squeeze, I knew God
would take over, and make sure my grandpa was in good hands. Later that night, as we were
leaving, we said our final goodbyes. All of our last words to him were as simple, yet as wonderful as
"I love you." I, of course, cried on the way out, and as we headed home, I dozed off in the car. When
we got home, my eyes were sore and puffy, and my head ached like it never had before. I couldn 't
make it up to my bed, so I curled up on the couch, and dreamed of simpler times. I remember crystal
clearly, I woke up, 4:55 AM. I felt lost, not your typical "Woah, where am I" kind of lost, but almost
like a "Something isn 't right here and I don 't know

Personal Narrative: My Memoir
I found out that I had deep buried emotions. I didn't know they were so deep before. I thought I was
healed from my experiences but I have come to the realization that I was not healed emotionally. I
also found out that I had a plot inside me and stories to tell from that plot.
I was very scared to write one of my memoir. The main reason for my fear was that I was scared of
what others may think of me. I have learned that when you are writing
, whatever you are afraid to
write about, go ahead and write it. Don't think what others will think just write. So I wrote as if I
were the only one reading it.
I think I have grown from the experience of writing memoirs and interacting with my classmates. I
have grown in the sense that I have overcome

William Zinsser's How To Write A Memoir
When written properly, memoirs can tell life stories in interesting ways. William Zinsser wrote an
informative essay called "How to write a memoir" which gives tips and guidelines on its namesake.
The book, Boy Tales of Childhood, follows a multitude of Zinsser's tenance from "How to Write a
Memoir" because Roald Dahl writes from one perspective and tells his true opinions about people,
but he does not center the story around solely himself. Boy tales of childhood is told through the
perspective of an adult and that perspective does not change. In "How to write a memoir" the author
wrote "...there are two different kinds of writing
. Choose one." This quote is in reference to two
styles of memoirs, either the author writes from the perspective of an adult or as a child but not both.
Roald Dahl writes from his perspective as an adult and doesn't change his perspective throughout
the entire book which, according to "How to write a memoir" is exactly what should be done.

Zinsser writes in his essay being the protagonist of one's story "... means leaving out of your memoir
many people who don't need to be there. Like siblings." Not following this specific piece of advice
is an interesting choice because the whole point of a memoir is that it is about the author, but by
occasionally telling stories about the other members of his family like siblings or parents he family
strengthens the story. Even though it is discouraged in "How to Write a Memoir" adding side details
and backstories makes Roald Dahl's memoir

How To Write A Personal Memoir
"This is my home, Cape Breton is my home, and I don't know if I really want to leave it as much as I
might think and I'm sort of scared to leave it all behind, everything I've lived with, I have so many
memories of all the things I've done here and I'm afraid if I leave, I might lose all my memories..."
(Rebecca McNutt, Smog City) Over the course of my life, I've moved several times, and each time I
have these thoughts. All of the memories and people I'm leaving behind have changed me in some
way, and I know I'm moving to another place that will change me again in some other way. My
social life, interests and responsibilities are a few aspects of my life to have evolved through each of
these moves, and at the same time there are certain parts

When I first entered school and had to start making friends, I tried very hard but always seemed to
had issues socializing. Somehow, I ended up being the target of bullies all the time as a kid, with
few friends who always stuck around. As I moved around the first few times between towns in
Upstate New York, this kept happening. It seemed I just didn't know how to make good friends, or at
least not many. But, this all ended when I moved out to California halfway through Middle School. I
made a few very good friends after I came to Larchmont, and they helped me open myself up to
more people. I made more friends than I ever had in my life, and began to spend time outside of
school socializing– something I'd never done before. Through all of this change, my closest friends
were still the same type of people I'd always sought out my entire life; it had always been more
creative type people. Whether they focused their creative efforts towards games, art, writing or
music, that was always the main thing that connected my closest friends to me. Also, despite my
more extroverted approach now, I still do prefer a quiet setting with less people (or even no one) to
one that is busy at the end of the

How To Read My Memoirs
Reading other students memoirs and writing a series of drafts helps my editing and revision
processes. Feedback from classmates is useful because I am able to take their suggestions and apply
them to my writing to improve my memoir. Reading other memoirs allows me to detect what the
writer may have been missing, and determine whether or not I have also missed a major key point.
Writing a series of memoir drafts is important because each time I read my writing I am able to
critique it more than I was before, and I am capable of pinpointing certain mistakes and focusing on
them. While reading other memoirs, I was looking for certain literary devices and basic essay
format. For example, I made sure the writer included at least one simile or metaphor, as well as
proper spacing and indenting. I also checked for the fundamental aspects that were addressed by the
teacher. Such as dialogue, internal and external action, internal and external thought, and imagery.
By reading my classmates' memoirs I was able to identify what they were missing from the criteria
and take my memoir into consideration as well. For instance, while reading Miranda's memoir I
noticed that she had a lack of dialogue. Then, when going back to look at my memoir, I saw that I
also needed to add dialogue to my memoir. My development as a memoirist improved by reading
memoirs,

I decided to add imagery because my memoir was not something everyone can relate to, so I had to
describe the situation more thoroughly to allow the reader to visualize the situation. Doing so
impacted my memoir's meaning because I pushed deeper and made the story more envisioning. To
enumerate, towards the end of my memoir I wrote, "The hospital room was filled with distress...I I
heard machines beeping, people weeping..." Everyone has been in a hospital room, so I described a
scenario where people can imagine what the room looks like and relate it to their

Gary Zinsser's How To Write A Memoir
In Zinsser's "How to Write a Memoir" he gives you three pieces of advice, be yourself, speak freely,
and think small. I'm going to be comparing these three pieces of advice to my memoir I've read
"Guts". I will be writing at least 5 paragraphs minimum for my essay. Now that I told you what I'm
going to be doing, lets get right to it!
Zinsser says in his "How to Write a Memoir" that it is best if you write like It's from the point of
view of a child. "Guts doesn't do this very well because Gary Paulsen only writes from the point of
view of a child only a few times in the story. One time he writes from a child's point of view is when
he says he was 7 years old and he saw a plane crash into the ocean and sharks ate the people who
were in the water. Gary is seventy–seven years old. Neither I nor anyone else would think he is a
child. Just to prove that he doesn't write in a child's perspective, I've found a quote from "Guts". On
page 126, "I can't think of many things including Iditarod 's or sailing the Pacific..."

In his memoir he tells his life adventures from when he was a young adult until now as an old man.
Some of the events he talks about surviving in the wilderness, sledding with his team of dogs,
hunting to survive and eat, and eating guts and eyeballs not to starve. At the near end of the memoir
Gary gives us ways to cook game or fish in the wild, this is another way he speaks freely. Unlike
other writers he uses different a type of writing like if someone would say " They were" someone
else would use a specific name like "Sam and John were". So that about raps it up for the first two
pieces of Zinsser's advice now lets get on the last piece of advice, think

Writing My First Draft: A Memoir
I have the same problem, just like you with writing the first draft. I know there is a memoir within
me, but I didn't know how or where to start. It was not so easy for me to write a memoir about
sixteen years I spent in different three countries. I've used too much time thinking about the events
