Lab 10.1: Wi-Fi Site Survey Scope: The purpose of this Lab is to obtain an understanding of the RF characteristics of Wi-Fi and carryout a site survey to validate performance in the real world. Carry out a latency and speed test at each location and anyze. The student will download the Wi-Fi Analytics App for the smartphone from Google Store or App Store. The urls for Wi-Fi / Network Analyzer are: For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en Informations : https://techet.net/netanalyzer/help.html?android=1 For iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/network-analyzer/id562315041#?platform=iphone Informations : https://techet.net/netanalyzer/help.html The url for the Speed Test App are : For Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pzolee.android.localwifispeedtester&hl=en_CAFor For iOs: https://www.speedtest.net/apps/ios Students will obtain an understanding of the following: 1. How Smartphones can be used for optimising and troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks. 2. Understand the relationship between signal strength, channel numbers and interference. 3. Carryout a Field test recording and analyzing the Signal strength, Channels in use, and other parameters to better comprehend the impact of terrain, building infrastructure and distance on handoff and coverage. 4. Map the Wi-Fi coverage at the location – in their neighbourhood. 5. Map the latency and speed obtained Equipment required; Android or Apple Smart Device Spectrum and Security Set Up 1. Download the WiFi Analyzer App (for Android phones) or Speed Test & Network Analyser for for iOS on your phone. 2. Get familiarised with the tabs and the functionality Page 2 of 11
3. Visit the respective Web site to view the documentation https://support.netanalyzer.techet.net/ 4. Each student / member of the team will need to take the needed measurements. 5. Take manual speed and latency test measurements at a minimum of 5 different locations and note the results. Screen shots of the Application and Essential learning.
