PHYS 2426 Student Worksheet Kirchhoff’s Laws Participants: Abigail Ponce, Adeeb Iqbal, Jacob Gomez Activity 1: Kirchhoff’s Junction Law Using Kirchhoff's rules, what is the amount of current in I1? Since the currents for 15A, 30A, and 20A are leaving from the center we can assume that its losing current We can use the given currents around to determine I1 by the following equation: I1 = 15-15-30-20= -50 A for I Activity 2: Kirchhoff’s Loop Law Using Kirchhoff's rules, what is the voltage of the power source in this circuit? Kirchhoff’s law allows us to add all the values of voltage around the loads in the circuit. E = 150+75+25+100 = 350V Activity 3: Problem What must the emf E in the circuit be in order for the current through the 7.00 Ω resistor to be 1.90 A? Each emf source has negligible internal resistance.
Since we are trying to find e+ we need the current for 24 and 3 which can be represented by 24-3i. Since we need to look at the hole circuit, we have equal it to the resistor and 1.8A making the equations: 24-3i= 1.9*7 Using algebra we can determine that I = 3.57(rounded). since we need to find the current from the middle branch we can subtract the difference. 3.57-1.9 = 1.67. We can now determine the emf. E +1.67*2 = 7 *1.9= 9.96 V
