SCI 100 Question Development Worksheet
Answer the following questions. Your instructor will use these answers to evaluate the critical elements for Project 2.
1.
Why did you select your news story? What about the story makes it interesting to you both personally and scientifically?
I selected the News story, “Biologist uncover forests’ unexpected role in climate change” because of my 5
th
grade science teacher who told me “Always be curious about the things you can’t explain.” The discoveries about the trees in the news story interest me personally because I know they will go to any measure to clean the air. Scientifically, the story interest me because this would go right back to what my teacher would always say. The role these forests’ have are vital and observing this scientifically can help us figure out how well they are performing.

2.
What did you already know about the topic before selecting the news story? What opinions or assumptions had you made about it?
The prior knowledge I carried into the science topic in the article was knowing that trees are stronger together and are all connected by the roots. They transfer information to one another. Coming into the knowledge of the topic has amplified my already known knowledge. 3.
Which concepts covered in the course relate to your news story? How?
One Natural Science concepts covered in the news story is empirical evidence. The scientific research conducted by biologist Thomas and Mathias has shown observations in the uptick of water used by trees. The biologist organized and analyzed what they observed. In the article, “How to increase your powers of observation”, The biologist who conducted this research analyzed what was observed and through this research it has provided a foundation for other scientist to build upon. http://ideas.time.com/2012/05/02/how-to-incease-your-powers-of-observation/
4.
What question do you have about the topic in the news story? Select one question that interests you based on your topic exploration graphic organizer and previous responses.
1)
The question I have from the topic in the news story is, W
hat variant can be an accurate representation of the process is critical in making sound predictions for the future? 5.
Why would this question be important to a natural scientist?
The question is important to a natural scientist due to discovering a response to a change. This question can also lead to further observations throughout time. For instance, the biologist used other scientist discoveries to
collect data for their method from the past and used it for the current to track data. The comparison in data helped these biologist measure 83% of cases of increased photosynthesis in trees.

can you answer these questions on solar thermal collector experiment using the following bullet points.
Why does correct positioning and weather affect the results obtained?
Why it worked/failed.
In your opinion, is Solar Thermal a useful technology for the UK? Avoid giving a binary answer and try to think of all variations of solar thermal technology and all regions of the UK.
How would you modify the technology to become better/more efficient and more appropriate for the UK?
If you were given the chance to do the experiment again, how would you do it and why? The answers to these questions should be supported by mindful arguments. This should occupy, at least, two pages of the report.
