Module 5 Application-Reflection Due May 14 by 11:59pm Points 100 Submitting a file upload Cell Phones as Tools for Learning Submit the assignment by 11:59 PM PT Sunday of Module 5. Cell phone technology developed in 1973, but cell phones are used for much more than making calls. Features added over the years include text messaging, touchscreen, internet access, email, GPS navigation, MP3 player, and state-of-the-art cameras, not to mention all the available apps. In this assignment, you will investigate the cell phone’s potential for delivering instruction, develop a learning resource to support learning, and formulate an activity using cell phones. Step 1. Investigate Using articles from the ACE library and other sources, investigate the potential for the cell phone as a tool to deliver instruction. Step 2. Explain In 3-4 paragraphs, explain the research you found. Include in-text citations in APA format. In addition, provide your views of the cell phone as a viable tool for instruction and learning. Step 3. Explore and Create Explore 4-5 applications or apps for the cell phone. Be sure the app fits the learners’ educational level (early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, adult); their technology level (beginner, intermediate, advanced); and content. Create a three-column table with columns labeled Name of Application, URL, and Statement of Educational Value to record your findings. Step 4. Develop Utilizing one of the apps from your table, develop a learning resource to assist your learners in using this application. The learning resource can be a tool of your choice or one of the following: a simple set of instructions with screenshots to assist with use of the app, short video explaining the application or log-in instructions, infographic illustrating how to use this app, or a webpage giving more information on the content (developed by you). Step 5. Prepare Prepare a 2- to 3-paragraph explanation of how you plan to use the cell phone app and the learning resource to teach the specific content. Describe how the learners will interact with this app. For example, will the learners watch a video, play an educational game, or perhaps enjoy a virtual field trip? Explain the outcome of the activity. How will you assess the learning? This is not a lesson plan but a brief explanation of how this app can provide educational value.
Master's Reflection Rubric v.3 Step 6. Reflect As a culminating step in this assignment, reflect on cell phones as learning tools. Use these questions to guide the reflection. What are your viewpoints on the use of cell phones as learning resources? What benefits do you see for using cell phones in teaching and learning? How do you as an educator manage learner cell phone use? What evidence explains why the cellphone can be a distraction? How can this distraction be overcome? Provide in-text citations supporting your ideas. Step 7. Submit Submit an APA-formatted document to include: a title page, 3- to 4-paragraph explanation of your research (Step 2), table with apps (Step 3), learning resource (Step 4), 2- to 3-paragraph explanation of your use of the learning resource (Step 5), reflection (Step 6), and a reference page.
