POSC 230 1. Pick a member state of NATO other than the United States. Make sure it is a member state and not just a partner country. Provide the name of your chosen country. (1 point) The Netherlands 2. When did your selected member country join NATO? (1 point) The Netherlands joined NATO in 1948. 3. Get a sense of how much your member country contributes to NATO activities. Include info on the following two aspects: a. Indirect funding o Total defense expenditures in 2019 (estimates are in USD (US dollars), current prices). Hint - open pdf or Excel file, Table 2 (1 point) While you now know what your member country pays total on its defense, each member is supposed to put 2% of their GDP into defense spending. How does your country measure up for 2019 estimates? Same link as A but see Table 3. (1 point) In 2019e, The Netherlands Defense Expenditure estimated Price and Exchange rate was at $12,478 M. The Share of the Real GDP was 1.36%, which again is an estimated number. While The Netherlands falls short of 2%, the estimate for 2019 was the highest percentage, indicating a positive incline for future GDP defensive spending. The reality unfortunately does not account for the COVID-19 pandemic that did occur from 2019- 2021, and the global showdown that occurred. b. Direct funding into NATO's budget (is a percentage) for 2021-2024 (1 point) The Netherlands’ direct funding into the NATO budget for 2021-2024 is 3.4193%.
