2 Intellectual Property Dispute 1. What is the dispute? The dispute between Epic Games and Apple centers around the App Store policies and fees. In August 2020, Epic Games introduced a direct payment system in its popular game Fortnite, bypassing Apple's in-app purchase system, which resulted in Apple removing Fortnite from the App Store. Epic Games then filed a lawsuit against Apple, alleging anti-competitive behavior and seeking changes to App Store policies. 2. Why is it considered controversial? The dispute is considered controversial for several reasons:  App Store monopoly: Epic Games argues that Apple's control over the App Store and its mandatory use of the in-app purchase system, which charges a 30% commission, constitutes an unfair monopoly. They claim that Apple's policies stifle competition and innovation in the app market, and that developers should have more flexibility in choosing payment systems.  Anti-competitive behavior: Epic Games alleges that Apple's App Store policies are anti- competitive, as they limit developers' ability to distribute apps through alternative channels and force them to use Apple's payment system, which they argue is unreasonably expensive.  Platform control: The dispute has raised broader concerns about the power and control that tech giants like Apple have over app distribution. It has sparked a debate about the influence these platforms have on the market and whether their practices need to be regulated. 3. Repercussions of the dispute:
