Assignment 4 2 Intrusion Detection Systems Features: Network  Analyze all inbound and outbound traffic  Detect events in real time and allow for quick response times  More challenging for intruders to detect  Can be strategically placed in critical areas Network Node  Able to provide higher speeds for the amount of traffic as well as reducing the need to analyze making the system faster  Takes up fewer resources Host  Can be installed on computers or servers  Can pinpoint the affected devices  Can notify administrators if analytical system files are modified or deleted  Particularly effective against insider threats Protocol-Based  Analyzes the HTTP or HTTPS protocol stream between the device and server  Can protect the web server by monitoring inbound and outbound traffic Application Protocol- Based  Specializes in software app security  Monitors the communications that occur between applications and the server  Typically installed in groups of servers

Assignment 4 3 Based on the information that I was able to find there are a few of the intrusion-detection systems that I would suggest to use. “Network intrusion detection systems (NIDS) are set up at a planned point within the network to examine traffic from all devices on the network.” (GeeksforGeeks 2023, March 14) This is an important feature as most of the malicious attacks come from the traffic that is coming in and going out of the work place. Though there are some downsides such as the hands-on maintenance and the low specificity there are more advantages as stated above in the graph.
