Assumpta Okafor BIOS 255-67225 Professor Shpend Pula November 5 th , 2023 Case Study 1.) a PT test examines the extrinsic route by evaluating factors VII, V, X, prothrombin, and fibrinogen. XII, XI, VII, and IX are the PTT test components, and they measure the intrinsic pathway (Saladin, 2021). 2.) The extrinsic and intrinsic pathways combine to form the common coagulation pathway (Saladin, 2021). Both routes result in coagulation, which is the process by which prothrombin becomes thrombin, which in turn causes thrombin to change fibrinogen into fibrin and activate factors VIII, XII, and V, which in turn causes a clot to form. 3.) In my opinion, he has the Factor VIII deficiency among the listed deficit factors. According to Jessie’s test, Factors VIII, XII, IX, and XI, which are related to the intrinsic pathway, are abnormal. The deficiency is a sign of hemophilia, an illness. 4.) Jessie’s test results indicate a Factor VIII deficiency, which indicates “hemophilia”. Because most genes are X-linked recessive genes, which males have only one copy of while females have two copies, the clotting factor disorder affects males more frequently than females. (Saladin, 2021).
5.) In this, the common coagulation pathway would be affected if the PT and PTT tests were abnormally long. This would also indicate a deficiency of blood clotting factor I, II, V or X (Saladin, 2021). Reference Saladin, K. S. (2021).
