SCENARIO FOR TEAM REPORT Summary
A small specialist IT consulting company (your team) has decided it wants to be acquired by a large
consulting company it has identified. Your team will develop a report to persuade that large
consulting company of the value to them of the acquisition. The report will demonstrate your in-
depth expertise in the particular category of enterprise system software in which you specialise. 1.
The role of IT consultant companiess in selecting and integrating enterprise system software
Organisations frequently use IT consultants to help them select and integrate enterprise system software. The
IT consultant is hired by a client to help them: identify their needs, evaluate enterprise system software that
might match their needs, and then integrate the selected enterprise system software into their business and IT
environment.
2.
Description of your small IT consulting company and your specialised expertise and tools related to a specific
category of enterprise system software.
Your team is a small IT consulting company with specialist expertise in a particular category of enterprise
system software (e.g., CRM). You specialise in helping clients analyse and identify their needs for enterprise
system software in that category, as well as evaluate, select, and integrate suitable enterprise system software
in the category. Your excellent reputation with your growing client base is based on the following expertise
and tools
2.1.
An in-depth understanding not only of the typical characteristics (objectives, components, features, and
challenges) of your category of enterprise system software offered by vendors, but also examples of
different vendor offerings that would be suited for client organisations with differing circumstances.
2.2.
Processes for identifying a client organisation’s needs for this category of enterprise system software
2.3.
Processes for evaluating, and selecting specific offerings of your category of enterprise system software
(i.e., making a match between the client and a vendor’s offering)
2.4.
Processes for integrating the enterprise system software into a client organisation
2.5.
Innovative open-source-based analytical and decision support tools you developed that enable you to
match a client’s needs with a vendor’s offering and integrate it more efficiently and effectively than your
competitors. Although based on some open-source code, you own the IP of these tools that you
developed from that.
2.6.
Being a small and relatively new company, you also have expertise in collaborative and agile ways of
working. 3.
Your reason for writing this report
Your small specialist IT consulting company has been so successful at specialised IT consulting in your category
of enterprise system software, that you are searching for a large consulting company to acquire you. You will select a large consulting company that could particularly benefit, in terms of value, from your
specialised expertise and tools to grow their business in this area and give them a competitive advantage over
other large companies.
There may also be other reasons why a large consulting company might be interested in acquiring your small
specialist IT consulting company: (
https://www.itechart.com/blog/5-main-reasons-big-companies-buy-small-companies/
)
4.
Your report
To justify the acquisition, you will write a report that:
●
demonstrates the expertise described in 2.1 - 2.4 above, ●
shows that you understand the large consulting company and the value of your expertise and tools to it,
●
explains important factors to be considered when integrating your small specialist IT consulting
company with a large consulting company (including, but not limited to 2.5 and 2.6).

Any words beyond the +/- 10% hard limit will not be assessed.
10.
If there is additional information that you feel would be beneficial to include, then you can add
appendices to this template. These will not be counted in the word limits but will also not be
read and assessed in detail by the person assessing the report (though they will be taken into
account in considering the depth of your background research).
11.

leave them in without changing anything.
●
When submitting submission 2 you should include the final version of sections 1, 2 and 3
from submission 1.
●
The reference list and amendment history should be updated for both submissions.
12. Remember to fill out the ‘Team Contribution Quiz’ on Canvas for every submission you make
for this report. The form will be made available on Canvas so that this information can be
provided individually (and confidentially) by each team member.
●
An overall report result will initially be determined. If the contributions are broadly
equivalent, then the same mark will be awarded to all team members. If, however, there
is a significant disparity in the contributions (either because of different levels of input or
