2.1 Discussion Machine Parts This week we studied the steps that are taken to machine a part from start to finish. You also learned about diameter compensation. Review the following in your textbook to complete this week's discussion: Introduction To Computer Numerical Control Ch 11: Programming Circular Profiles Ch 12: Programming with Cutter Diameter Compensation Instructions Reply to the topic below by Wednesday of this week, 11:59 pm EST . Discussion Topic For this discussion, you will be given a drawing of a part based on the first letter of your last name. In your original post , answer the following: A – M: Figure 1 N – Z: Figure 2 For the Figure shown, write the “setup notes,” and make a “CNC Tool and Operations Sheet” listing the operations and tooling needed to machine the part in a logical order. Assume the part is made from mild steel. Please keep in mind that you will need to use diameter compensation in order to correctly machine these parts. In your post include how you will use diameter compensation to machine your part. How would the direction of cutting influence the G-code command used?
For an example, please refer to Chapter 11, Review Exercise 11.3 in the textbook. Hello Everyone, Please excuse my late reply to this post. 1. The first step would be getting or creating a DXF file for the CNC. 2. Second would be to set your (X,Y) center. 3. The third step would be to set you zero for the Z axis. 4. Fourth would be to constrain the raw material on the CNC table with clamping kit. 5. Fifth operation would be to run the machine. Changing out drill/end mills as necessary. 6. The blank is supplied with 2.625 in. squared. 7. To account for the cutting compensation, we use G-Code commands G41 (Left compensation) and G42 (Right Compensation) in the initial setup along with specifying the End Mill Diameter. Most of this can be setup in Autodesk or Solidworks CAM.
