COMP7250 – Computer Networks / COMP8250 – Advanced Topics in Computer Networks Practical – Week 3 Note – Please refer to the Lecture’s Slide Deck. This practical does not involve the use of any Equipment. Question 1 What is the relationship between an Autonomous System (AS) and an Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Question 2 In an inter–AS forwarding scenario, identify any issue(s) which may arise if each AS along the path resorts to using the default route to forward packets further downstream. Question 3 What are the different types of Autonomous Systems? Provide an example for each type. Question 4 S hould a single–homed AS need to learn Internet routes from its provider? Question 5 Consider a Stub AS, AS1, that is multi–homed to two other providers, P1 and P2. Should AS1 announce the prefixes it learns from P1 to P2 and vice versa? If yes, explain why? If not, explain why not? Question 6 An ISP often prefers to forward traffic to its closest exit point. Explain why? Identify an issue that may surface by following this early exit routing approach. Question 7 Explain why a Stub AS would perform Unicast Reverse Path Forwarding (uRPF) check on the incoming traffic at its border router? School of Computing, Faculty of Science and Engineering
