The goal is for you to reflect on the internal and external syntax of pronouns, in preparation for Unit 2, which looks at Binding Theory. In your Study Group, work through the following sets of questions, which are organized into 3 steps. . (During the last part of the tutorial, you’ll come together with the tutorial as a whole for discussion.) In your Study Group, assign someone to be the timekeeper , someone to be the spokesperson (for the debrief), and someone to be the recorder (to take a screen shot of the trees that you draw). Step 3: Phrase structure analysis (15 min.) Give the bare phrase structure representations of the following sentences. (Assume that pronouns are DPs.) Indicate the decisions that you made about the internal structure of the pronouns. (We’ll come back to these examples in class on Tuesday.) (1) She knows me . (2) She knows my dog .
