Week 4 Assignment: Agile Project Initiation Craig Wayman CIS443 Professor Alma Miller
Summary of the Project The Homes Depot company has hired me as the Project Manager (PM) to develop a website and mobile application for their customer base throughout the United States. The development of the scope of work, budget, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), communication plan, and risk management plan has already been completed. The project timeline will be six months, from 1 February 2024 through 1 August 2024. This timeline includes time for testing and quality assurance. The primary goal of this project will be to create the most user-friendly and seamless experience for our customers. Finally, through testing and quality assurance, we will ensure our website and application are accessible to all. Project Goals During a project, many goals are set. According to an article by Kate Eby, “A project goal explains what the project will accomplish”(1). For this paper, I will be discussing the top three project goals I have for the project I have been assigned. My primary goals are to provide a user-friendly experience to customers, increase company sales, and improve customer satisfaction. By meeting these goals, we will be able to provide the company with a quality product that meets their desired outcome. To achieve these goals, I will use the following steps. First, I will define the objectives of the website and mobile application using the Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound (SMART) method. This will ensure my objectives are focused and easy to share with the team. Following this, I will need to identify the target audience who will be using the app and adding features they want included in the website and the application. These objectives help drive meeting the goal of having a user-friendly interface. When seeking to improve company sales, I will set objectives that enhance the experience the customer has when using the website or application. Compatibility, security, and search engine optimization are objectives that I will set to help meet this goal. The website and mobile app must be compatible with all devices and operating systems to ensure universal access for customers . Providing secure payment
options is another objective that helps build customer loyalty. We also ensure that our website is optimized for the various search engines on the internet. This helps bring our business to the front of the line when searched on any device. Finally, we want to provide the best possible customer support structure. By setting this as an objective, we are putting the customer first and ensuring that we meet our third goal. Enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent customer support builds loyalty with customers and builds a sense of pride when working with our support team. We will develop both live and bot options for customers to choose from and ensure they are able to be accessed by every person, including those with disabilities. Key Milestones The process of developing a website and mobile app for a major home repair company is intricate and requires meticulous planning and execution. Here are some significant milestones that an e-commerce business should keep in mind while developing a website and mobile app. Determine the project's scope, the initial step involves defining the project's scope, which includes identifying the objectives, goals, and requirements of the website and mobile app. This will guarantee that the project stays on track and meets the needs of the business and its customers. Next, we develop a project plan, the next step is to create a project plan that outlines the tasks, timelines, and resources required to complete the project. This will help to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget. Now we can design the user interface. It is crucial to design a user-friendly interface for the website and mobile app that is easy to navigate. The interface should be designed to provide a seamless experience to customers. The core of the project is to develop the website and mobile app using the latest technologies and best practices to develop both. This will ensure that the website and mobile app are secure, scalable, and easy to maintain. Finally, we test and ensure the quality of the website and mobile app. Both must be

tested thoroughly to ensure that they are free of bugs and errors. This will ensure that the website and mobile app are dependable and provide a positive user experience. High-level Timeline The timeline for developing a website and mobile app can vary depending on the complexity of the project, the size of the team, and the resources available. An article on projectmanager.com says “A project timeline is a visual list of tasks or activities placed in chronological order, which shows the entire project plan in one place”(2). Here is the high-level timeline that I have developed for my e-commerce project for developing a website and mobile application. Project planning and requirements gathering are the initial stages of developing a website and mobile app. During this phase, we define the scope of the project, identify the goals and objectives, and gather the requirements. This phase usually takes between 2 weeks. After the requirements gathering phase, we move on to the design and prototyping stage. Here, we focus on designing the user interface and user experience for the website and mobile app. This phase can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Once the design is finalized, we proceed to the development phase where we use the latest technologies and best practices to develop the website and mobile app. This phase can take anywhere from 8-12 weeks. After development, we move on to the testing and quality assurance phase. Here, we thoroughly test the website and mobile app to ensure they are bug-free and error-free. This phase can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks. The deployment and launch phases are the next steps. During this phase, we deploy the website and mobile app to a production environment and make them available to customers. This phase usually takes 2 weeks. Finally, we provide post-launch support and maintenance to ensure that the website and mobile app are functioning optimally. This phase can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks. In all, we will ensure the
project is completed within the 6 months we have outlined here and that it meets the scope of the project. Project Cost The cost of developing an e-commerce website and mobile app for a large home repair company can vary widely depending on the complexity, features, and functionalities of the website and mobile app. After reviewing a survey conducted by Clutch I learned that “the average cost of agency-developed applications ranges from $30,000.00 to $700,000.00, with a median cost of $171,450.00.”(3). Based on this and other research, I estimate this project will cost $350,000.00 to meet the size and scope of the operation. This amount may change over time as our requirements change, things happen that are unplanned, or on other projects altogether.
