Critical Analysis: Engage Tracey Evans IDS 404: Popular Culture Dr. D January 31 st , 2024
2 I have included reputable resources as references that I will utilize throughout my work to support my analysis. The MCU can broaden an outsider’s understanding of the cultures or societies in other ways. For example, in Wandavision, Wanda creates a fictional world where Vision is alive and they’re living a happy life. Wanda is dealing with grief, so she is essentially kidnapping people in order to create this world. All of us have lost a loved one and we have to deal with our emotions. In her 1969 book, On Death and Dying, psychiatrist Elisabeth Kúbler Ross introduced an understanding of the stages of grief. In this book, she discusses the many feelings that people may experience as a result of emotional transformation. You may feel any or all of the phases of grieving model's symptoms, or you may have entirely other emotions. For example, if the person you loved was suffering or caring for them had become extremely difficult, you may first feel relieved upon their death. You may also feel guilty, lonely, or anxious. ( Stages of Grief | Are the Five Stages of Grief True? , 2022). According to Medium, Escapism in pop culture has long been a dominant influence in the entertainment industry. It provides a break from the responsibilities and monotony of everyday life, allowing people to immerse themselves in intriguing stories, explore fictional worlds, and encounter new realities. (Magazine, 2023). Seeing Wanda suppress her feelings and finally choose to feel them and begin to heal might help those dealing with similar circumstances. Graphic design is heavily influenced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A cohesive design language not only enhances usability but also reinforces brand identity. UX designers can apply this lesson by establishing a clear and consistent design language across all digital products and touchpoints. This can include visual elements, such as color schemes and typography, as well as interaction patterns, animations, and micro-interactions. (Allotey, 2023). For example,
3 Iron Man’s color scheme along with the arc reactor has maintained his core identity. Another example is the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker. The relationship between them is that of a teacher and student throughout several films and the relationship is described as emotional resonance. In UX design, creating emotional resonance is crucial for establishing lasting connections with users. This can be achieved by understanding users’ needs, desires, and pain points, and designing experiences that address these factors in meaningful ways. Incorporating storytelling elements, micro-interactions, and personalized content can help create an emotional connection, enhancing user engagement and satisfaction. (Allotey, 2023). A skill that I have developed in the process for critical analysis is looking at the big picture. This means not following steps but looking at the overall scheme of things. I’ve been going to college on and off for ten years. When I completed high school in 2014, I didn't have the necessary mindset to pursue a bachelor's degree. I was 17 years old when I started college, and I had no idea how to balance my studies and enjoyment. I was kicked out of two universities for poor grades, but in 2020, because of the pandemic, I applied to SHNU, and my academic counselor pushed me on the right path, and now that my focus is only on education, my grades have been excellent. Being involved in school has encouraged me to fulfill my goal of graduation. This will aid my understanding of popular culture because it is possible to overlook a key aspect. For example, in design art classes are classes we take before the actual graphic design classes and if we only took the art aspects of design, we wouldn’t be privy to the many design programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud. The opportunity to have different resources available to us anywhere is essential in our field.
