Running head: IMPORTANCE IF HIPAA 1 HIPAA Importance Heather L. Hunter Purdue Global
IMPORTANCE IF HIPAA 2 HIPAA Identify two points let you think are important from HIPAA and describe them each. The first important role I think that HIPAA has is that the patient privacy other health care information. I think one of the important parts of HIPAA is that it makes sure that the health care providers, as well as health plans, and clearinghouses must make sure that there are multiple ways to protect personal health information. HIPAA makes the rules that healthcare organizations how to file to make sure that they organize who is in control and who has access to the health data. HIPAA makes sure that the information that is given to them, the health care providers, is subject to strict security controls (hipaajournal, 2017). Prior to HIPAA, there is not one requirement that said the health care organizations could release the information and copies of patients’ health care information. My second part information that I think is important to HIPAA, is that HIPAA has helped healthcare organizations improve. HIPAA has showed a few benefits that are important to the healthcare world and help them transition from paper records to the EHR (Electronic Health Records). HIPAA uses all the same sites, and have all the code sets nationally recognized, that helps them transfer the jars between the healthcare and the plans. Explain why HIPAA is considered an important ethical policy medical ethics are the basic principles to almost every health care decision that is made. I found four main principles that each one of them affect HIPAA: 1. autonomy -which is when patients have the right to make their own decisions on their health 2. non-maleficence- the medical people make sure that the patients who are without care or neglected are taken care of properly
IMPORTANCE IF HIPAA 3 3. Beneficence-The duty of the health care providers to make sure their patients are getting the highest of gear that they deserve 4. Justice-Is all patients access to the treatments that they need to get better Here are how these four main principles affect HIPAA: 1. Autonomy- The individuals have control of access of their information and how it is used 2. Non-Maleficence- Health care professionals must make the patients information private in available in ordnance with HIPAA 3. Beneficence- Being a health care facility, they have that duty to help the patients receive the best care that they deserve with their health 4. Justice- HIPAA applies the same privacy of security to the patients’ health records (jotform, 2020). I found that health decisions made in compliance with HIPAA and medical ethics result in best healthcare possible. Combining HIPAA compliance with medical ethics protects individuals from identity theft and your business from lawsuits and fines. HIPAA compliance, at its root, is all about protecting a patient’s digital information and safety (jotform, 2020).
