Module Assignment 1 Part I Question 1 Box 13.1 Activity: The Information Life Cycle I chose a newspaper article from the New York Times related to mental health. This article's creator or author is  Jan Ransom and Amy Julia Harris. The article describes that Jan Ransom, a journalist specializing in investigative reporting for the Metro desk, primarily covers topics related to criminal justice, law enforcement, and incarceration within the New York area and Amy Julia Harris, an investigative journalist with over ten years of experience, became part of The Times in 2019. Her reporting primarily centers around New York-related topics. This particular newspaper article is published in the New York Times on Feb 7th, 2024. This is available to all the customers who subscribe to the daily newspaper. We can also access it on the internet through their official website. The newspaper editorial staff and chief editor would have access to the article before it is published. These newspaper articles are available in libraries and web archives. It is always easy to find these articles on the internet. I was able to access the article using the internet through a website. It had a main heading which gives the title of the article. In addition, the article had a few images captured related to the title and the subject. These images help us to get a better idea of the subject that the author wants to convey. The organization of the article on the webpage felt clumsy as there were advertisements between the paragraphs. I have used the Google search engine to locate this article. It guided me to the main website of the newspaper where I typed in, the topic I was interested in which finally gave me many options. This was how I found the article. It was available for free but if I want to not see any ads in between, I have to subscribe to the newspaper.
This article is an observation and analysis of mental illness in the New York state based on an audit. The authors used quotes from a few people like the city mayor and officials to explain the issue.

Module Assignment 1 Part I Question 2 References Pence, H. E. (2022). Future of artificial intelligence in libraries. The Reference Librarian, 63 (4), 133-143. https://doi.org/10.1080/02763877.2022.2140741 Reflective summary: Artificial intelligence is surely one of the greatest breakthroughs in the world of technology and digitalization. This paper discusses how artificial intelligence is and will be used in the future of libraries and information science. This invention has brought many changes in almost every industry. For instance, Artificial intelligence is utilized to enhance the performance of devices, eliminate red-eye effects in photographs, conduct image searches, and facilitate facial recognition management (Pence, 2022). The major aspects that are elaborated on in this paper are Artificial intelligence in combination with big data, usage of virtual assistants in libraries, and AI for bibliographic citations. The major concern for many data scientists and analysts is big data. According to (Pence, 2022),” Big data and artificial intelligence are complementary”(p.137). This is clearly explained in this paper. There are a lot of new details I discovered while going through the page. A few of them are the relationship between big data and AI, and how they are interlinked. Not only this, but Artificial intelligence agents are capable of assisting users in pinpointing the most valuable databases for their searches and recommending the optimal approach to structuring a query that aligns with the requirements of a specific database(Pence,2022). This saves a lot of time for researchers and professionals working with data and databases. There is also a little new information like AI-based citation and smart cities.
When I continuously start writing papers, citations sometimes consume a lot of time and I believe the AI citation generators mentioned in the paper will help me work on the main writing part and allocate less time to cite papers.
Module Assignment 1 Part I Question 3 Box 9.2 Activity: Reflecting on Professional Development Goals. Currently, I am a master's student and not employed in any job role. After my master's, I would hopefully work as a web developer as I am passionate and keen to work in that technology. It is a major responsibility for a beginner like me in a company to learn new skills and evolve to have a long career and sustain in the industry. Most of the duties I perform in my present job will help me gain experience and perfection, in addition to this learning new skills and technologies will boost my profile. According to Wong and Saunders (2020), " Training coordinators may design sessions where newer employees can analyze their existing skills and proficiencies, reflect upon where they would like to be in the future and brainstorm potential training and development strategies that will get them there." (p. 184). After Assessing my personality and capabilities I will have a better view of what I have to achieve in my career. Later on, figuring out ways to work on it and managing my current job as well as skill enhancement is the major task. I would consider participating in training sessions and workshops as one of the effective ways to enhance my skills. These days most companies have started offering employee training camps or sessions. When I utilize this kind of opportunities, I can learn and enrich my skills. For the job role, I chose, I need to be proficient with languages like HTML and CSS, and for my career advancement, two useful skills would be Agile and Node. These will give me focus on user interface and front-end and back-end requirements. Working on them practically will allow me to master these skills. In web development, knowing and understanding the client's requirements is the most important task. For HTML and CSS, many learning and training tools allow us to code and create websites. During my current job, I can

ask my senior developers to train and share their experiences. (American Library Association, 2008) mentioned that ” Share teaching skills and knowledge with other instructional staff” (para.5). One more option for me to get better in the skill is to start teaching and training my juniors or freshers. This knowledge sharing helps me get acquainted with the languages. There are many crash courses and training workshops on Agile and Node on platforms like linkedin which will help me to build my future in this technology.

Module 1 Assignment Part II Question 1 Difference between a dictionary and an encyclopedia. In the early stages of schooling, one of the most commonly used materials is the dictionary. There are many ways to explain the concept of the dictionary. According to Wong and Saunders (2020), " Dictionaries have long been the tool by which people from all walks of life find definitions, pronunciations, usage, and etymology of words." (p. 376). Over the years there have been many changes and advances to make dictionaries comprehensible. Generally, dictionaries are arranged in alphabetical order (Wong and Saunders). On the other hand, an encyclopedia is a book or collection of information on anything imaginable. Unlike a dictionary, it gives a brief description of a certain topic. Due to the wide-ranging scope of content in encyclopedias, they are valuable resources for addressing various types of inquiries, encompassing both quick-reference queries and biographical information (Wong and Saunders,2020). For instance, if you want to know about a lab specimen named Amoeba. A dictionary will give you the definition, pronunciation, and various ways of using the word. Whereas, the encyclopedia discusses the elaborated meaning of amoeba, details about its discovery sometimes display images as well. References

Due to the large volume and variety of books and authors, finding a book based on user preference has always been a challenging task. Over the years, there have been many methods introduced to simply the process. I would suggest my friend use the reference sources like library catalogs, and shared cataloging networks to find the book t he book The Fourth Wing  by Rebecca Yarros. According to (Wong and Saunders,2020),” Library catalogs aim to list the works located in or accessible online from one or more libraries”(p.416). This data, when it is available on the internet, it saves a lot of time and energy for people like my friend. I also suggest him to go through the shared cataloging networks. By using this source my friend can get a complete machine-readable copy with a set of libraries that have the book (Wong and Saunders,2020). This justifies that the information about the book my friend is searching for will be available using the two online sources. He will surely find book availability but sometimes there might be similar authors with the same title with a similar author. To overcome this, we can use ISBN to asses the book. (Wong and Saunders,2020) says that ”The International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) serves a similar role, uniquely identifying each serial title”(p.417). This will make the hunt even more effortless. Of course, many more new platforms and applications are being developed incorporating machine learning and artificial intelligence which may take over the catalog networks in the future. References

It is a fact that there has been a lot of increased usage of AI tools to make things easier and more efficient. The urban dictionary is one such developed application, unlike the traditional dictionary, which consists of the work of common people rather than some expertise and officials. According to (Wong and Saunders,2020), “When evaluating dictionaries, an assessment of their authority and accuracy is essential”(p.379). After visiting the Urban Dictionary website I believe there are advantages and disadvantages to using this resource. To evaluate this dictionary I tried searching for meanings of a few random terms. Regarding authority, I did not find the page to meet my expectations. For every word I searched, I was able to see a short description along with general usage in the language. I found them to be normal and not exact. The regular internet users were the creators of the responses it provided, which might be the reason for the inaccuracy. For a few words, it gave a very long description which I felt was not necessary. Starting with the positive outcomes, I was able to see some conversations in the English language using the words I searched. This made me understand the word quickly and properly, it gave me correct definitions for a few words like epitome and gratitude but failed to explain simple words like mouse and pupil. For both words, the word is the same but there are two different meanings. The absence of information typically available in standard dictionaries is a significant disadvantage. In addition to this, there is no review or formal explanation of the word. School students using this tool can be affected by fault or inaccurate information. References
