2 Department Homeland Security Measures to Fight COVID-19 Department Homeland Security protects the movement of people and goods or products into and out of the country. It ensures that high quality security is being administered by preventing unauthorized activities from being carried out within the border. This discussion will highlight how Homeland Security Department handled COVID-19 as well as how effectively they can handle another public health emergency. COVID-19 crises affected the movement of people due to the spread of the virus leading to lockdown across the borders of many countries. DHS provided vaccines to both citizens and noncitizens and ensured that all travelers are vaccinated and that they had a proof of their vaccination (Openshaw et al., 2021). It also increased their effort on covering the migrants thus ensuring their safety, public health safety as well as border communities’ safety. Department Homeland Security (DHS) worked with other agencies in production and supply of face masks to all travellers and ensuring that they are tested for the virus. The affected were been isolated and quarantined for the required time.it also helped in ensuring social distance in the public places like airport, bus status as well as in the public services (Kenney, 2019). DSH is ready to handle another health emergency because it is supporting societies by encouraging them to have self-sustainability long prior the emergency in order to save lives and reduce the cost of mitigating the disaster (Daszak et al., 2021). It also works to inspect and identify emerging risks to acknowledge outbreaks and manage the spread of public health occurrences. DSH provides training and through exercises and practices to people in the community so as to prepare them on how to give first aids in case of emergency.
3 In conclusion DSH plays a vital role of ensuring security in the country’s air, water and sea borders as well as ensuring public health safety to all the communities. It has helped to take lives back to normal since the start of COVID-19 pandemic.
