Lesson Evaluation
(Refer to your course syllabus/instructor’s directions for the format of your lesson reflection. Some EDU courses require essay format,
following a specific rubric)
Reflections on Teaching & Learning:
Your Lesson Evaluation should include
EACH
of the following:
Decisions about the plan
Why did you choose to use these specific teaching strategies?
I chose to use these specific strategies because they are what I have seen modeled by my CT, and it was a follow-up
sequenced lesson that was planned based on the previous lessons.
Which parts worked and which did not? Why? How does this impact your next lesson?
I think the lesson plan worked well for most students. I need to spend more time with the ESE students to ensure understanding
of the lesson.
What multisensory methods or strategies did you incorporate into the lesson?
I incorporated songs and videos along with visuals of number lines everywhere.
Describe the modifications you made to the lesson for diverse students (ESE, gifted, and those with reading difficulties
and/or dyslexia) and the impact on student achievement.
I modified it for ELLs and ESE students by repeating the questions and asking them in different ways. I also was able to ask
them in their native language.
Evaluation of Student Response and Learning
How did the students respond to your lesson while you were teaching? Give specific examples.
All students were engaged and participated enthusiastically throughout the lesson. They all asked questions and responded
to the questions I asked.
How engaged were students during this lesson?
Discuss what YOU did/planned that invited student engagement.
The students were very engaged as they sat on the carpet while I taught; I asked many questions throughout the video, the
song, and the visuals I showed, as well as during the presentation and as I went over the learning check.
Based on evidence, how many students met the objectives appropriately? Analyze the specific results. What will you
suggest and/or do for those who did not meet the benchmarks you set?
How does this data inform instruction?
I had set a goal for a group of 17 students, out of which only 14 students met the goal. The remaining three students were
having some trouble understanding the concept of greater than or less than. To help them, we placed those students in a
small group setting for intervention. After being reassessed, all of them scored well.
Evaluation of Differentiated Instruction
How did your strategies for differentiating instruction help all indicated subgroups of diverse learners? (Refer to the planned
differentiation section of your template); What connections to an ELL home language as a foundation were used as
support?
I believe my strategies were effective. I was able to explain the lesson to the six English Language Learners (ELLs) in our
classroom using their native language. By speaking slowly and adding Spanish translations, they were able to make
connections and have a thorough understanding of the material.
What would you continue to do?
What might you do differently?
As a future educator, I am committed to actively participating in lesson planning, practicing the material before teaching,
seeking out additional resources to enhance the quality of my lessons, and being attentive to the diverse needs of my
students in order to provide them with the best possible learning experience. I would carve out more dedicated time to my
ESEs and ELLs.
Self-analysis of Teaching Performance
What teaching behaviors/skills did you use successfully?
I was able to successfully teach the lesson while maintaining a friendly and firm presence that kept their attention.
How might you incorporate these successful strategies within future lessons?
I will continue to improve based on student assessment and CT or other administrator’s feedback.
What are the skills you want to improve upon based on feedback and/or your own analysis? How will you work on these?
I want to improve my differentiation strategies and scaffolding strategies so I can serve better all students.
Collaboration/Indirect Collaboration
Describe if there was any co-teaching, who was involved and what responsibilities were shared.
There was no co teaching involved.
Describe if there was collaboration/ consultation required for the successful planning of this lesson. With whom did you
consult? What assistance was provided?
I consulted with my CT prior to planning the lesson to know what was on deck for me to teach, after I planned it, I sent her a
copy of it to see if I needed to switch or add anything to the lesson, which she okayed after looking through it.
Discuss results of formal assessment, including specific data related to mastery of objective and suggestions for future
planning.
Based on the assessment after the lesson 14 out of 17 kindergarteners demonstrated mastery of the learning objective. The rest
achieved it after intervention in small groups.
Explain how your use of a student assessment demonstrated that you met your learning objective(s)
By looking at the passing scores it demonstrated that I met my objective of the lesson.
What is your most significant learning from this experience?
The most significant learning from this experience is knowing what are best practices and how direct instruct to best help all students
in the classroom regardless of the classifications they have.
