Reflective Practice Protocol ______________________________________________________________ Reflective practice is an ongoing, dynamic process of thinking honestly, deeply and critically about all aspects of professional practice with children and families. It occurs spontaneously as well as in essential planned reflection time. Most importantly, reflective practice leads to action. VEYLDF, Practice Principle Guide: Reflective Practice Reflective practice is one of the practice principles in the Victoria Early Years Learning and Development Framework. Understanding how to reflect is critical to how you plan and create learning environments that view children and families as capable, practice learning in relationship, and engage teacher as researcher. As part of each 4-5 days of placement, please complete a Reflective Practice Protocol and discuss with your mentor teacher. Scheduling regular times during your placement to engage in a focused discussion about practice with your mentor teacher will help to ensure that reflection becomes regular practice. Please add your answers to the 5 questions below. ______________________________________________________________ 1. What strength have you developed this past week? What have you learnt? What was the outcome of your previous investigation into your practice? This past week, I have developed the strength of effective communication with both children and their families. I have learned that clear and empathetic communication is essential in building trust and establishing positive relationships. My previous investigation into this practice involved observing how different communication styles impacted children's engagement and cooperation. The outcome was a noticeable improvement in children's willingness to participate and families' confidence in our centre’s activities. Reflective Practice Protocol
2. What question about your practice would you like to investigate this coming week? In the coming week, I would like to investigate how I can better individualize learning experiences for children with diverse needs and abilities. Specifically, I want to explore strategies to cater to different learning styles and developmental stages effectively. 3. What goals and strategies can you develop in response to your question? Identify the diverse learning needs of each child in my care. Develop personalized learning plans for children. Regularly assess and adjust the effectiveness of individualized plans. 4. What question about your practice would your mentor like you to investigate this week? My mentor has expressed interest in me investigating how to effectively manage and respond to challenging behaviours in a group setting. 5. What goals and strategies can your mentor recommend in response to your questions? Keep a behaviour journal to track incidents and identify common triggers. Collaborate with colleagues to create a consistent behaviour management plan and establish clear expectations for behaviour in the group. Reflective Practice Protocol
