Reflection Paper: D235 Interprofessional Communication and Leadership in Healthcare Nancy Lau Professor Kristy Hodson Interprofessional Communication and Leadership in Healthcare - D235 August 15, 2023
“My energy map put me at effortless Explore, Effortless plus Excite, Deliberate Examine, and Deliberate + Execute.” Part One: Working Style As I look deeper into myself, I see an interaction between my strengths and challenges within these energies. I am good at time management because I have practiced planning and prioritizing. This skill helps me use resources well and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality. Also, I am dedicated to checking my work thoroughly to avoid mistakes, making my efforts accurate and dependable. Sometimes, I overthink, which can cloud my thinking, causing moments of feeling stuck in a situation. While my curiosity pushes me to dig deep into details, it can slow down quick choices and make me doubt myself. In addition, there are times when I struggle to fully understand other people's viewpoints, making it a bit tough to grasp their opinions. Visuals such as charts, graphs, and diagrams can turn complex concepts into something I can casily understand. Taking notes is also helpful for me as well. This method helps me remember important things I have learned and gives me something to look back on when I need to understand things better. When uncertain about the information provided, asking questions and exploring answers becomes a guiding light for me. Questions asked with curiosity help improve clearer thinking and promote personal growth. When considering a partnership that works well together, I recognize the importance of maintaining balance within the team's interactions. Given an example, a coworker carefully examines how I work. They pay close attention to details, just like I do naturally. Their attentive thinking ensures that every part is looked at closely (Venter, 2019).
The project has been solid and stable from the beginning. However, "Execute energy" is equally essential because it pushes the team forward and ensures that progress continues without any breaks. Together, when our perception of unbiased work is expressed among each other, this creates a strong teamwork where our dedication and drive come together. This result leads us to accomplish our shared goal. My work shapes my handling of challenges and interactions, which blend different energies. I recognize that both strengths and difficulties exist within these energies. Self-awareness helps me make the most of my strength and deal with challenges effectively. By utilizing visual aids, engaging in note-taking, and asking questions, I navigate through discovery, enthusiasm, examination, and execution. As I think about creating a synergistic team, I recognize the importance of building a diverse group. Mixing critical thinking with action leads to a collaboration that pushes us toward achieving our goals together (Hardie et al., 2022). Section Two: Communication In a recent conversation, I realized I was actively using the "Sincerity" listening approach. When my friend shared a personal challenge, I instantly became a focused listener, genuinely absorbing her words with empathy and sincere interest. In response, I asked thoughtful, kind, and respectful questions and provided supportive feedback that displayed my understanding. This interaction showed my communication abilities for creating emotional bonds (Venter, 2019). By using the Sincerity listening approach, I managed to improve the trust between me and my friend, leading to a more meaningful connection between me and my friend. In another different conversation, I used the Authenticity way of speaking. I shared my honest opinion without sugarcoating anything. I made the conversation go deeper by giving real-life examples and personal stories, making my comments feel more meaningful. This technique shows that my communication works best when genuine and open.

By how I communicate, I can build positive or negative patterns in my relationships and life. Effective communication allows me to share understanding, respect, and meaningful conversations with whoever crosses my path (Venter, 2019). By using the Sincerity listening style, people can use their ability to engage actively, creating an environment that encourages feeling heard and valued by others. I believe this style creates the innermost lasting connection form of bond with another. With the new communication tools I've gained, I feel ready to change my current ways of thinking. My goal is to break the ineffective and promote the creation of lasting cycles of value. I will dedicate myself to engaging in authentic and meaningful conversations. By erasing insincerity from records, I create a positive setting for having productive discussions that bring advantages to everyone involved and add to a network of personal connections. In my journey, I am working hard to reduce unnecessary repeats and be attentive to this matter. This behavior displays an acknowledgment and value of the experiences of individuals in my journey around me, helping us all understand and respect each other better. At the same time, I improve my communication by being genuine and using words to express my truth. By combining the Sincerity listening mode and the Authenticity speaking mode, my conversations become more meaningful channels filled with value and purpose (Hardie et al., 2022). Learning various communication styles has shown me ways to improve my interactions with others. The Sincerity listening approach helps me build empathy and understanding, allowing. I form solid and meaningful connections with others (Venter, 2019). The use helps people express themselves clearly and honestly, which leads to more meaningful and honest conversations. Section Three: Reflection on the Hero's Journey
In the interprofessional Leadership and Communication program, we learned a lot about how good communication works and how it affects how we work with others. While I was learning, 1 faced different levels of understanding and challenges. This helped me grow personally and learn more about myself (Joo et al., 2021). Throughout the course, I realized how important good communication is for making connections, working together, and building successful partnerships. I understand more now that communication brings people together with shared understanding and goals. However, any big adventure always has difficulties, and my journey was no different. One of the problems I faced was overthinking things, that can be overwhelming. Overthinking has made it hard for me to understand things clearly and sometimes stopped me from participating in conversations properly. But, even with all the challenges, I found helpful tools through the educational program that improved my abilities. I became good at active listening, which helped me focus even when there were distractions and let me connect well with the stories and experiences others shared (Joo et al., 2021). Wanting to help others on their journeys is like the classic story of my heroic rewarding adventure. With what I've learned from this experience, I see myself as a guide, showing people how to improve their communication skills (Hardie et al., 2022). I help people by leading them through the valuable course material and organizing discussions where they can improve their skills in building better relationships, dealing with disagreements smoothly, and working together effectively. I want to keep improving my growth by becoming a better listener and having honest conversations. This assignment inspired me to take on new challenges and start new journeys to improve. I plan to learn from mentors who've gone through similar experiences. Workshops will
help me improve my confident communication skills, so I can be more attentive without overshadowing others. In different situations, I'll adjust how I talk to fit the feel of each situation, just like changing my steps to match a different dance beat. The ideas about how we talk to each other, and work have become a big part of who I am (Hardie et al., 2022). By thinking about things and learning new skills, I feel more at ease in ready for a future focused on essential connections, working together well, and reaching my personal and work goals. Through self-reflection in the interprofessional Leadership and Communication course, I have learned how important good communication and understanding my work style are. Four energies influence how I do things and interact: Explore, Excite, Examine, and Execute. I'm good at managing time and being thorough, but I struggle with overthinking. Additionally, using pictures and asking questions helps me learn better. I use Sincerity listening to connect with others and Authenticity speaking to have honest talks. Following communication rules, I aim to have valuable back-and-forths where I listen well and express myself honestly. This journey lets me build essential relationships, help with teamwork, and aim for success in both my personal and professional life.
