1 Effective Leadership Protocol A leader is characterized as someone who leads a group of people or organizations towards a shared goal. There is no one set style for leaders when it comes to instructing and managing others. Identifying the perfect fit for an organization is imperative for their growth. Strong leaders invest in their companies, not with money but through the support, treatment, and attitude given to their employees. A leader values each employee by providing growth; and encouraging each individual to become a part of the group to work towards the company’s shared goals. Communication skills are a crucial skill for a leader to have to ensure the minimization of confusion and to help employees understand their task at hand. In the case of With proper communication training, the Lead Group (GCU) has the potential to become exceptional leaders. In pursuit of their goal to optimize office functionality, Terrance Jones, Sarah Jones, and Fred Williams are embarking on a journey to learn diverse leadership strategies that they can implement in their professional positions. Leadership Styles The actions and behaviors of management and leaders has a direct impact on employees. According to GCU Business Management there are four main types of leadership styles in the business world: autocratic, democratic, and laissez-fair. Characteristics from all four types are present in the management team. An autocratic leader unilaterally makes all decisions without seeking input or feedback from others. According to the NSLS these leaders tend to be dependable, consistent, and
1 motivated. Despite this, these leaders can be detrimental to the team's progress if they do not value the input of others. A laissez-faire leader uses a hands-off approach. While holding every person accountable, they allow each member of the team to make their own decisions. These leaders have a tendency to empower their team members and promote a hands-on approach, but the absence of hands-on management can restrict team members and leave them without adequate support. Terrance Jones uses this style of leadership most often, along with Fred Williams (depending on who he is talking too). Due to their cold demeanor towards their employees, they are seen has unapproachable, arrogant, and rude. Democratic leadership is said to be one of the most effective styles used to lead a group. These leaders openly consider and incorporate the suggestions of others in all decisions. According to the NSLS they heavily rely on group participation. Their main goal is to boost engagement and help their employees become invested in the company. The presence of these leaders greatly shapes the office culture and environment. According to studies, this leadership approach has been linked to heightened productivity, creativity, and collaboration. Despite the positive aspects of these traits, this leadership style can be time-consuming and prone to mistakes, making it less suitable for a fast-paced environment. Sarah Jones has a tendency to ramble, and her communication skills are lacking, but she makes the conscious effort to include everyone and ask others for ideas. Laissez-faire leadership takes a completely different approach than the other two. These leaders practice a hands-off approach. They give support to employees when needed but do not tend to oversee. By leaving their team in charge, they assign tasks and are understanding of any mistakes that may occur. Leadership like this will empower a team to step up and take charge while improving their skills along the way. Despite this, it can also restrict advancement and

1 leave employees feeling disconnected and without support. Terrance Jones while mixed with autocratic leadership, shows signs of brushing others off to figure things out themselves. He frequently delegates daily tasks without checking in or showing concern for others. Leadership Protocol The leadership team has to practice active and open door polices listening to see change. The Lead Group needs to start taking survey like questions asking their employees how their environment can be improved. Active listening is defined as a way of responding to another person that helps improve a mutual understanding (The United States Institute of Peace). . When an employee is paying close attention to your communication and engaging back with you these forms active listening. This helps build your employees feel heard and seen, while showing them you care about what they are saying. Terrance Jones and Fred Williams will focus on eye contact, leaning forward, letting another finish speaking, restating, reflecting, and asking open ended questions. Having one on one conversations before a large meeting can help one better understand the needs of others. This can lead leaders to understand what needs to change in their company. Whether it be a change in mission or a different approach to this mission at hand. These leaders now need to lead by example, practice the active listening constantly, communicate and check in with all employees, and hear out the ideas of others. Protocols must now be placed that hold them accountable for these actions. An established communication flow will now be implemented and maintained. Inspiring individuals to engage in new training programs aimed at enhancing active listening skills and understanding new policies. This will ensure that both employee and leader grow and benefit the needs of the company. In addition to this the environment of the offices will change increasing morale.
1 Leaders will enhance communication by being more supportive. This will streamline problems and help come up with solutions faster. Through effective communication, promoting open communication channels, and offering support and training, the Lead Group can observe a favorable shift. Conclusion Leadership takes hard work and dedication. It is essential for leaders to have an open mind towards the ideas of others. No two leaders are alike, so in order for their style of leadership to work they have to be open to the idea of change and coaching. The key objective of an effective leader is to continuously motivate and direct their employees towards a shared mission. Learning various leadership styles is achievable with time, dedication, and perseverance.
