Discuss how you would differentiate instruction for the inclusion of various learning styles.
Today, we live in a technology and media-driven environment, marked by access to an abundance of information, rapid changes in technology tools, and the ability to collaborate and make individual contributions on an unprecedented scale (Framework for 21st Century Learning,
n.d.).Students learn in the 21st century the essential skills necessary to succeed in today’s world, such as: critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills. As an educator providing differentiate instruction for the inclusion of various learning styles I would supply my students with computers and I-pads/tablets with various educational applications that children can learn the same way, but geared towards their learning goals that the program comes up with. I would provide technology as a center for center time as well as cassette player and tapes that children can listen to a story that is being read to them and the student can follow along in the book with the story being read to them and can test their knowledge to see if they understand what was happening in the story they were listening to.
Reflect on ways in which you would modify instruction for special education students.
Articulate thoughts and ideas effectively by using oral, written and nonverbal communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts, listen effectively to decipher meaning, including knowledge, values, attitudes and intentions (21ST CENTURY LEARNING for EARLY CHILDHOOD FRAMEWORK, n.d.). One example as a teacher I would use a muffin tin to sort and count colored bears. In the cupcake tin would be a number and dots to represent the number. The students would count or look at the number and count out how many colored bears go into the muffin tins
. This would help special education students who may have a hard time identifying numbers to place objects with the certain amount of items. This way the student could count the dots and know that they need to place four colored bears into the muffin tin that represents the number 4 ****.
Discuss how you would modify instruction to meet the needs of students who are designated second language learners.
I would modify instruction by doing these three things to meet the needs of second language learners by using 21 st century skills to learn
global awareness as using 21st century skills to understand and address global issues, learn from and working collaboratively with individuals representing diverse cultures, religions and
lifestyles in a spirit of mutual respect and open dialogue in personal, work and community
contents, and understanding other nations and cultures, including the use of non- English languages (FRAMEWORK for 21st CENTURY LEARNING DEFINITIONS, n.d.). In the preschool classroom at my school we have written labels and a picture as well as the actual item taped and labeled to all materials in the classroom. We also have English and Spanish written words on the materials to help the students identify what the materials in the classroom are in English and in Spanish with a picture and the actual item on the container labeled. Example if it was feathers in the art are we would have the English
and Spanish word feather written on the container and then a picture of feathers and then place a
feather on the outside of the container. We also have various pictures of people and their cultures
from around the world posted in the classroom as well as a family school board where families can post their pictures in the classroom for a multicultural and diverse family structures.
