Topic 1 DQ 1 Feb 5-7, 2024 Refer to the textbook to explain the difference between formal and informal professional networks and the components of each. Provide an example of a time you have engaged in both formal and informal professional networks. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type? Hello Class, Formal communication networks consist of documented communication such as emails, memos, reports, and text. I believe that work productivity platforms using applications such as Slack, Teams or Trello would be considered formal communication as these are often used for project management. Informal communication networks is watercooler talk or other moments of face to face communication where the conversation is not being documented. The main difference between formal and informal communication networks is that formal communication provides official information, decisions, or policies whereas informal communication opens the door for making friends, socializing, and making small talk. In the spring of 2023, I was elected as treasurer to the board of the CHS Band Boosters. When we have board meetings and vote on items that will determine if money is spent on different events, costumes, transportation and such other general ledger issues, official notes are taken by our secretary so that the decisions are documented and passed on to newly elected boards in years to come. This would be a formal communication network. The informal communication is what we post on Facebook to parents in just a couple of sentences of decisions that were made. Usually call times for band members to shop up for football games or tournaments. Thank you,
