All employees of Fast Med Couriers,
Latest From the CDC
The CDC recommends that all individuals 6-months and older receive an annual flu vaccine. The
CDC's primary goal is to safeguard public health and safety in the United States by controlling and preventing disease, injury, and disability. It aims to achieve this by improving health outcomes and promoting healthy behaviors among the population through research, educational resources, and implementation of strategies. The CDC collects, analyzes, and reviews data before
releasing it to the public to ensure the reliability of its information and recommendations. Their mission is to provide the most credible and current health information to the public. The CDC tailors their evidence-based recommendations to meet the unique needs of each population. Furthermore, the CDC is dedicated to providing clear and easily accessible information about public health issues.(Soomo Learning, 1)
Flu Is Dangerous
The flu has serious effects on the body that cannot be ignored. Its symptoms can be very uncomfortable and disruptive, and it can lead to life-threatening complications. Seek medical attention if necessary. It is estimated that flu vaccinations prevent 40-60% of flu-related illnesses and doctor visits. It reduces illness severity, ICU admission, and death risk by 31%. In 2018, a study showed an 82% reduction in ICU admissions with flu vaccination. Pregnant women who get vaccinated protect their infants from the flu. Flu shots during pregnancy reduce hospitalizations by 40% on average. More vaccinations could prevent more illnesses, but only 50% of Americans get vaccinated annually.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2)
Vaccines Can Help
Getting the flu vaccine is essential to prevent illness and complications.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2) To some extent, a vaccine can prevent influenza, also known as the flu. However, the flu vaccine's effectiveness can be influenced by factors such as your age and health conditions. It is possible to contract the flu even after vaccination if exposed to the virus shortly before or during the period when the body is building immunity. Moreover, the seasonal flu vaccine only protects against four flu viruses and does not guarantee protection against all illness strains. Nevertheless, the flu vaccine is a crucial preventive measure, especially for younger adults and older children.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2)
How Flu Vaccines Work
When viruses are inactivated or weakened, they help the immune system to produce antibodies against influenza viruses. Adaptive immunity means that when you get vaccinated, your immune system can recognize the flu virus and quickly produce antibodies to fight it off, protecting you from getting sick.
3
You May Still Get the Flu
There are a few reasons someone may still get the flu even after being vaccinated. Firstly, the flu vaccine is created based on predictions of the virus strains expected to be most common during the upcoming season. The vaccine may not provide complete protection against the flu if these predictions are inaccurate. Secondly, it takes around two weeks for our body to develop immunity after vaccination. Therefore, if someone is exposed to the virus shortly before or after getting the vaccine, they may still get the flu.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2)
Upcoming Vaccine Clinic
Because they are more likely to be exposed to the flu virus at work, it is recommended that all employees of Fast Med Couriers follow the CDC’s guidance and receive an annual flu vaccine. A
free vaccination clinic will take place next Thursday at the main office.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Rhonda Davis
