WEEKLY REFLECTION 2 Student Weekly Reflection Regarding Practice & Competency *Clinical examples must be included* The purpose of this reflection is to reflect on your experience and/or skills gained during this week’s Lab. This experience should relate to your ability to form therapeutic relationships with patients/residents/clients. Taking part in practice reflections “demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning and continuing competence (CNO, 2015, slide 3).” Information provided must be double spaces and font time Roman 12 Include how situations/events, actions, or practices in lab made you feel . This should be included in answering question 1 or 2 (a). STUDENT'S NAME: Mariayana Zulfekar TEACHER: Alvin Sidlacan WEEK#: 2 DATE : 2024-01-20 1. WHAT I WAS ABLE TO DO WELL THIS WEEK (i.e. skills, accountability, knowledge, communication, therapeutic relationship, and professionalism): During my first week here at Centennial College, it was an incredible experience meeting international students such as myself from different backgrounds and cultures. This experience was also challenging because I was still learning to navigate around the campus as well as adjusting to the different language and teaching methods here at the college. For our first and second week, my lab instructor Sir Kwaku thought us about the different infection control measures which include hand hygiene, donning and duffing of PPE and bedmaking with proper body mechanics. These skills were taught to me beforehand so I knew how it must be done and why it is an important step in clinical practice. Sir Kwaku placed emphasis on using proper body mechanics when bedmaking as well as transferring and moving patients in the bed. Proper body mechanics is important to reduce the risk of injury to yourself as well as the patient. However, I commended myself for quickly grasping the concept of bedmaking and using proper body mechanics to perform the task in a professional manner. Being in the laboratory was effective as it helped me to put my newly acquired skills and knowledge to use as well as improve my ability to retain information and solve problems that may occur in the real world.
WEEKLY REFLECTION 3 2. a) WHAT I NEED TO IMPROVE IN ORDER TO BECOME COMPETENT: For me to become an effective PSW, I need to work on my teamwork and communication skills. I find it difficult to share my thoughts with teammates since I have always been a shy and quite person. This affects both me and my lab partner as it causes miscommunication when working in a team which results in decreased engagement. When I was first paired with my lab partner in bedmaking, this became a challenge since I had always been comfortable working independently. Because I was introverted, this made performing the task for the first time much difficult compared to when I did the task alone. I am aware that teamwork and communication are highly PSW skills since it allows you to effectively distribute tasks, learn from each other’s insights, and work together to provide the best possible experience for our client or patient. I will practice active listening as this would help me to better understand what my teammate is saying so that we can connect on a deeper level to improve communication. The more practice I have sharing my thoughts and communicating the better I will become. And once it becomes easy my shyness will disappear. b) SPECIFIC ACTIONS/LEARNING I WILL TAKE/DO TO IMPROVE

R - Complete quizzes from the E-workbook so that I can test my knowledge and see which areas I can improve on. T - Read ahead with PowerPoint presentations provided about week three topics so that I will be more involved in discussion in the laboratory which will boost communication with me, and my lab partners this Friday.
