Interview Purpose The purpose of the interview is to understand the victims’ current stands on testifying and to provide support and information about the trial process. Questions Additional spaces are provided in the table for question development. You are not required to create more than three questions, but you may wish to develop additional questions now to receive instructor feedback you can apply to future question development. Item Question Type Develop Question Relevance of Question to Interview Purpose Example Diversion How long have you lived in the area? This question type can help the person being interviewed feel more relaxed. Because it seems like a question that is not related to the problem at hand, they may feel less guarded. It can also serve to provide needed background for the interview subject. Question Type 1 (Required) open-ended question can you tell me how you're feeling about the upcoming trial? This question allows the victim to express their feelings in their own words which can provide insight into their hesitation and help tailor the support they need. Question Type 2 (Required) Closed ended question have you had any contact with the suspect since the incident? This question seeks a specific piece of information that is crucial for assessing the victim safety and the enforcement of the protection order. Question Type 3 (Required) leading question you mentioned feeling hesitant about testifying do you think that seeing the suspect in court might be influencing your decision? This question guides the victim to consider a specific factor that may be affecting their willingness to testify which is important for addressing their concerns. Question Variety 1
Using different question types in an interview can open things up open into questions let people share more you know get all the feels and thoughts out. Close ended ones are great for those yes or no answer super straightforward period leading questions can nudge someone to think about something specific maybe something they didn't consider before. It's like having a toolbox, each tool does something unique and when you mix them up you get a clear picture of what's going on. References Trull, S. G. (2024, February 14).
