8 Who would you contact in the event of an emergency? In emergency situation I’ll dail 000 and then I’ll ask to connect for particular situations depending. 9 What are the implications of ignoring WHS / OHS rules and regulations and organisational policies and procedures ? OHS means Occupational health and safety it is about preventing accidents, preventing injury and preventing death. reducing time away from work because of injury The importance of safety should never be underestimated. Occupational health and safety (workplace safety) can be defined as: the condition in which persons are protected from the risk of work injury so far as is practicable in the light of current knowledge through the control of work environment, machinery and equipment and work behavior. WHS means Work health and safety it is about the regulatory approach to promoting safe and healthy in workplaces. It involves standards and processes that ensure everyone knows their rights and responsibilities regarding workplace health and safety. The scope of Work Health and Safety, is comprehensive. It’s aspects of a business, from the physical work environment to employees mental and emotional wellbeing, includes identifying, assessing and managing safety risks associated with work activities and taking steps to prevent or control hazards that may cause injury or illness. 10 Outline the WHS / OHS Hierarchy of Control , explaining how it effects WHS / OHS. What suggestions could you include to ensure staff WH&S management practises are effective? The Hierarchy of Controls is: Elimination - Eliminating toxic substances such as chemicals, hazardous machinery or processes which are not necessary for a system of work. Substitution - Substituting a toxic substance, hazardous machine or process with one known to be less harmful to health. Isolation - Enclosing or isolating a hazard from employees, to eliminate or reduce the risk of injury or illness. Engineering controls - Changing processes, equipment or tools. Administrative controls - Changing work procedures to reduce exposure to the existing hazards. Personal protective equipment - Some tasks we do can be dangerous if we do not protect ourselves, such as when we are using chemicals or dangerous equipment. 11 Describe the control measures including who would you report the incident to for the following workplace hazards and risks:
A light fixture hanging from the ceiling: Working in badly lit areas is also a hazard. If you cannot see what you are doing you may fall, cut or burn yourself, or a customer may fall or be injured . Any incident may happen when lightning effects and it leads to risk of hazard. A blocked fire exit door: Fire exit door should not be blocked in any purpose, with any equipment or anything. During an emergency situation if the fire exit was blocked that leads lo severe injury and damage. In any situation fire exit door should be opened. A water leak near the entrance of a premises: Entrance of the premises should be neat and clean every time, if there is any water leakage it may lead to trip and flip hazard ,in that situation any injury may happen. Needs to be careful when there is a water leak be careful in closing the valves of water pipes. An unsafe pile of "product" in a store in which you work, that may topple over: Stacking materials can be risky if workers do not adhere to safety precautions. Workers can be crushed, pinned by falling objects or collapsing weights, which can result in injury or even death. To keep items safe, stack bags and bundles in rows that interlock one another. By stepping back the layers and cross-keying the bags at least every 10 layers, you can stack material that has been bagged. After that, begin removing bags from the stack starting with the top row. Materials in boxes should be banded or secured with cross-ties or shrink wrap. A more stable stack will be produced by interlocking boxes. Boxes can be supported by a pallet, which also makes moving them simpler. 12 List 5 employer responsibilities relating to WHS? 1. Provide a safe work environment. 2. Provide and maintain safe machinery and structures. 3. Provide safe ways of working. 4. Ensure safe use, handling and storage of machinery, structures and substances. 5.
