Kimberly Barrick Socially Responsible Practice Recommendations 6/2/23 Socially Responsible Practices are an important part of any business. In order to grow SNHU Pet Supply Company’s social and ethical output we will look at two companies that are already very invested in these works and come up with the first step for SNHU PSC to follow suit. The first company we will look at is TOMS Shoes. TOMS is very active in environmental and social causes. To start, they donate 1/3 of their profits to grassroot causes. This includes investing in community organizations that assist with mental health, poverty, LGBTQ+ youth, supporting community leaders who are working to drop the murder rates of black male youth, and improving education, employment, and heath for CA youth to name a few. TOMS is also very invested in environmentally sustainable options for packaging and products. Next, we will go over the areas that The Body Shop puts their efforts into. The Body Shop has been involved in social and environmental causes since 1976, with the focus of campaigning. The company has campaigned for many causes such as Saving the Whale with Greenpeace, climate change issues, raising money to save the rainforest, eliminating animal testing, protecting the Ogoni people during the Shell oil protests, fighting against body image and self-esteem issues, petitioning for human rights, and freeing wrongfully convicted people, stopping domestic violence, HIV awareness, fighting against sex trafficking, and safe sex awareness. The Body Shop is also committed to their Community Fair Trade program. This program helps the company obtain quality ingredients and goods in an ethical way that provides support for places and people with limited income all over the world.

There are many benefits to adopting socially conscious policies for businesses. Not only do these types of practices help support the community and the environment, but they can also save the company money. Creating Shared Value is an important thing when looking at socially conscious policies. Creating shared value is the idea that a company and the community are tightly linked together, meaning that if the community profits from the choice of the company, then the company is creating a chance to get back some of what they are putting in. It is also important to keep ethical solutions for our employees and customers as problems or issues arise. Staying on top of social and political issues and creating new pathways for philanthropic ventures also keeps SNHU Pet Supply Company ahead of the game and provides a standard for business practices that not only benefit the company, but it also benefits the workers who keep it running and the community it serves. In order to start doing more socially responsible practices I have chosen a policy that SNHU Pet Supply Company can put into action. SNHU Pet Supply Company will create a program that assists people with low incomes obtain and train Emotional Support and Service animals thought donations from customers and company sales. I believe this will be a great addition to SNHU PSC and its consumers. We want to show our community that SNHU PSC is invested in the community and the people in it who are less fortunate. It also creates an avenue for the regular customers to feel like they are contributing to a good cause and help solidify their patronage to a store that is focused on improving the world around it.
