SNHU 107 Module Six Activity Template
Complete all parts of this template by replacing the bracketed text with your responses and submit for grading and feedback. All personal mission statements, short-term goals, and feedback are examples.
1.
Revise the personal mission statement based on instructor feedback.
Sample personal mission statement: o
"My mission statement is to, without a doubt, do great in every class I take so I can get my bachelor's degree. I want to work in business because it is rewarding. I hope to provide for my family and make the community better.”
Sample instructor feedback:
o
“You are off to a good start with your mission statement, but please remember that it needs to be focused on what specifically you are working toward and why it is a passion for you. For example, it is important that your first sentence clearly defines what your major is and your proposed graduation date. Knowing this information gives you a strong understanding of the length of time the goal will take to complete. Your second sentence should focus directly on the career field you want to work in and why. Please be a bit more specific when you say “business.” What specifically do you want to do in business and why? Finally, for your third sentence, make sure you focus specifically on how obtaining this degree and working within your desired career field will help provide for your family and make your community better. Please rework your mission statement
to include these details.”
While working on my Business Administration degree I will adopt the personal mission statement of: I will utilize resources and successfully manage my personal time to be able to obtain the best grades I can until I graduate in 2025. I am looking forward to getting into a career in Project Management so that I can help develop and manage multiple projects what will bring a change to Medical Insurance availability in low income areas. Being able to complete
this degree and starting on my career path in Project Management will be extremely beneficial financially for my growing family and with hard work it will change the way we view Health Care and the people who are unable to obtain it. 2. Revise the first short-term goal based on instructor feedback.
Sample goal:
o
“I want to get straight “A’s.”
Sample instructor feedback:
o
“This is a good start, but please remember the SMART goal-setting process (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound). Writing your goals following these guidelines will ensure that you provide enough specific details so that you know exactly what it takes, every day, to accomplish them. Please make sure that you write your goals following this format.”
My first short term goal is to get all A’s in my classes during the first half of the year. I have planned to accomplish this goal by making sure that I have gone over all my assignments twice to make sure that I don’t lose unnecessary points, study on my lunch breaks daily, and incorporate instructor feedback from assignments. I am also committed to making flash cards of
all important information to go over weekly to help retain all the information I have learned. I will be able to track and confirm that I have completed this goal by writing in my planner when I do study time and reviewing my grades at the end of the halfway mark. 3. Revise the second short-term goal based on instructor feedback.
Sample goal:
o
“My second short term goal is to ask for help with schoolwork when I’m struggling.”
Sample instructor feedback:
o
“This is another good start with a short-term goal, but again, please make sure you follow the SMART goal-setting process. Remember to explain the overall purpose of this and why it is important for you to accomplish this as you work toward your mission statement. For example, are you saying you want to ask for help when times get tough? What kind of help would you get? How would you know that you needed help? It is important for you to detail the understanding of asking for help and why it is important to your success.”
I am committed to asking for help when I am struggling to understand the material during my first term for my second goal. This is important to staying committed to my mission statement because to be able to help other people in need, I need to be comfortable asking for help myself. I will utilize the 24/7 tutoring and reaching out to the professor of the class for clarification if I am unsure about course materials/assignments. I will be sure that I accomplished this goal by my own ease in asking for help and my overall grades at the end of the term.
4. Revise the third short-term goal based on instructor feedback:
Sample goal:
o
“I would like to use the SNHU Writing Center to help me improve my writing skills.”
Sample instructor feedback:
o
“I’m glad that you want to use the Writing Center to help you specifically improve your writing skills. Knowing this now can help you focus on the right resources at the right time. Please make sure you follow the SMART goal-setting process, specifically regarding
how you will know when you are successful in improving your writing skills and when you hope to have this goal accomplished.”
For my third goal I am going to improve my writing by the end of the first term. I am going to accomplish this goal by utilizing the SNHU Writing Center during the writing process of my papers and seeking advice/feedback from the instructor when I am unsure in my writing. I will know I have successfully completed this goal by reviewing my grades and feedback and the quality of my last paper compared to my first. 5.
Identify some benefits
of embracing and incorporating
feedback
in
your writing.
I feel like the biggest benefit of utilizing feedback in my own personal writing is having a fresh set of eyes on my work. Being able to see how someone else is feeling about the quality of my work really helps me be able to make my future assignments stronger. The first step of incorporating feedback is being able to embrace it. Sometimes we may have a hard time seeing some of the constructive criticism we are given on our writing. I know that it’s difficult for me sometimes when I see feedback on something that I thought I had done a good job on. Even
though it may sometimes not be what we want to hear, this feedback is necessary in becoming a
stronger more effective writer.
