P a g e | 2 11. A colleague has been stealing food from the workplace fridge. Team members want to resolve this issue by putting a notice on the fridge in an attempt to deter the thief. Identify if this issue is within the team members scope of authority and provide an example of how you would determine whether the team have your permission to resolve this issue themselves. This is an issue that falls under the authority of the team members. There are situations when the team leader is unaware of a problem until a member of the team brings it to his attention. In a successful team, members are encouraged and given authority to identify and address difficulties that prevent them from accomplishing their goals. By posting a note on the refrigerator, all of the other team members, except the thief, are indicating that they wish to resolve this matter quietly rather than turning it into a major problem. They decided this issue is within their boundaries by ensuring they can take necessary action to stop stealing through effective communication among team members.
