Dear Mr. Obi, I am applying to your master’s program in business administration and global project management. It has always been my dream to gain acceptance into the two programs at Torrens University. I am an entrepreneur, an aspiring project consultant, and a travel enthusiast who is always keen on analyzing and exploring different business opportunities in different parts of the world. I am also an English teacher in Colombia as well as an online Swahili tutor. As a driven and adventurous learner, I believe that Torrens University will help me acquire skills that will make me outstanding in my career. How do you Define Business? Generally, I see business as an opportunity to provide goods and services in exchange for profits (Ovans, 2015). However, I believe that business also involves the creation of opportunities, creation of unique products and services or adding a value to an existing product or service while considering environmental sustainability. Why did you choose this Course? My decision to undertake a double master’s in business administration and global project management has been motivated by different factors. A master’s in business administration provides practical and theoretical training for business and investment management (Torrens University, 2020). The course will act as a precursor to developing skills in general business management and specific focus on marketing, relationship management, finance, and accounting. A master’s degree in global project management deepens the understanding of all the factors involved in project management (Torrens University, 2020). This course will give an opportunity to apply knowledge of project management in areas such as budgeting, planning, and practical Page | 1

situations. Therefore, the two programs will resonate well with my past experiences and my future career aspirations as a global project manager/consultant and an entrepreneur. What Kind of Past Experience (or Interest) do you have in this Area? In the past 14 years, I have undertaken different professions and owned different businesses in the process of understanding who I really want to be. After completing my Diploma course in Supplies and Procurement, I worked as a quality assurance representative for Mumias Sugar Manufacturing Company in Kenya. I joined Kilifi Plantations Limited as a personal assistant to the managing director and the chairman as well as the front office administrator. From Kilifi Plantations, I joined Adriabo Brick Manufacturing Company as a consultant. Later on, I became an entrepreneur. I started with an Airbnb business. I moved on to the provision of food delivery services based on my own recipes. I ran a fresh flower delivery services and also entered into a partnership to sell laboratory equipment. I also owned a chicken farm. How has your Experience Prepared you for this Course? My experience as a quality assurance representative at Mumias Sugar Manufacturing Company in Kenya has given me much knowledge on the supplies and procurement sector. It has taught me about important skills in business management such as offering quality products and services to customers, effective sales and marketing, and customer relations. These skills will help me in completing my course in business administration. At Kilifi Plantations Limited, I had responsibilities that were highlights of my career and will play a role in preparing me for this course. I was in charge of all the processes involved in land sales. It gave me experience about writing and executing contracts. It also gave me an opportunity to collaborate with different entities while developing projects. I participated in the Page | 2

installation of two milk dispensers in Kenya. During this time, I faced different challenges in project management and they included budgeting issues, inadequate skills, and limited engagement of stakeholders. Joining this course will play an important role in sharpening these skills. At the Adriabo Brick Manufacturing Company, my focus was on ensuring that the company follows business laws. I ensured that employees’ needs were met in terms of insurance and salary. It helped in understanding the importance of positive customer relationships. Above all, it improved my knowledge on business laws of Kenya. In undertaking the course on business administration, the knowledge on business laws will give me a better understanding of the global perspective. The challenges I have faced in developing my businesses will be essential for completing this course. Loss of money and changing customer preferences are some of the common challenges I have faced. I have also faced challenges in understanding business structures and policies involved in developing and managing a partnership. The two courses will play an essential role in sharpening my skills in understanding the responsibilities of stakeholders. The courses will support me in understanding the business environment which is composed of the government, suppliers, competitors, economic conditions, investors, and customers among others (Surbhi, 2015). How do you ensure the Required Outcomes of your Course Are Met? Learning has always been easy for me. Therefore, I believe that to meet the outcomes of my courses, I have to choose what is important and focus on it. Taking my assessments seriously will ensure that I can gauge my success. It will me an opportunity to ask questions and get effective feedback. I also believe in collaboration as a way of capitalizing on other’s skills. It will give the Page | 3

opportunity to expand my knowledge. Above all, setting goals will be key in ensuring I have a systematic learning structure. What can you do to Manage and Monitor your Studies to a Successful Completion? To manage and monitor my studies to a successful completing, I can contribute with efficient work methods. I can look for ways to simplify and question everything that I do. The eagerness to learn, intensive focus, and active participation will all contribute to a successful completion of my studies. I will be motivated by the desire to learn new skills. I will also apply effective time management skills to balance my professional and academic endeavors. Above all, I will utilize technology to improve my studies. As you think about the Future, how Might You Apply your Studies in Later Life? After completing my business administration course, I will gain insights in the application of flexible and advanced management skills I will apply the skills in ensuring that my businesses are successful in areas such as leadership, advertising, networking, risk management, and managing finances among others. I will apply the knowledge I have gained in exploring the latest international business trends, challenging myself to improve collaboration, and applying management tools and techniques. I will apply the global project management course in seeking employment opportunities. My interest is to work in reputed organizations that are offering services to the public. Back in my country Kenya, this knowledge will help me in contributing to the development of the economy through forums such as UNICEF and UNESCO. The application of the knowledge from the two courses will help me to align my businesses and profession with economic principles that focus on satisfying unlimited demand with limited resources (Stiglitz et al., 2015). What kind of Goals would you like to Set for Yourself with Regards to this Course? My long term career goal with regard to this course is to become a global project manager and consultant. In the short term, I want to be an entrepreneur as I had taken this path before the course. The knowledge I will gain from these courses will play an essential role in sharpening my skills and preparing me for my future career and business aspirations. I would like to assure that I will be fully dedicated to completing my studies in accordance with the rules and regulations of the university.
