Report
SQ6-Comparing Oversight Approaches Protocol Research prior to regulations and laws used both animals and humans as test subjects for clinical trials until certain cases revealed the pain and suffering caused to the participants. After the news was released to the public, there was havoc till laws and regulations were placed for those involved in the research. Research involving animals and humans requires a protocol that has similar steps to protect the participants from being hurt. The protocol for animals in research requires the following 7 steps to be approved: “essential use of animals, research can not be duplicated from previous data, it has to be the appropriate species, the number of animals has to be justified, the care of the animals has to be appropriate, any pain and distress has to be alleviated, and alternative procedures has to be considered (Ellison K., 2023). In contrast, the protocol for humans is more extensive and detailed. The protocol requires 13 steps before approval including “a protocol title, background and objective, data use, inclusion and exclusion criteria, number of participants, recruitment material with attachments, procedures involved, compensation or credit, the risk to participants, potential benefits to participants, privacy and confidentiality, consent process, and training” (Ellison K., 2023).
