2 Air Pollution For my milestone one virtual lab I have decided to learn and write about what cause air pollution, how humans are worsening air pollution, and how natural events like weather and natural disasters affect air pollution. My proposed research question regarding air pollution is, what are the sources and contributions of different pollutants to air pollution? Now I can begin implementing the scientific method by observing, researching, make a hypothesis, experimenting, collecting data, and make a conclusion. First, I would choose 2-3 different types of cities and I would start observing the weather reports and collecting data on a graph to see if the larger cities with more activity produce more pollutants. After I observed and collected my data, I would create a hypothesis that matched up with the research I conducted. Next, I would Test out my hypothesis and start observing and researching on what I found to be leading cause to air pollution. Lastly, I would come up with a conclusion after my findings to determine what we can do to reduce air pollution and protect our environment. This experiment is significant because if we continue down the path of not caring about our environment then we are slowly killing our home and our health. Air pollution affects our lakes, local coastal waters, our plants, our ozone, our animals, and humans (Lovett, 21) . There have been many experiments regarding air pollution but one that stook out to me was “Ambient air pollution exposure and damage to male gametes: human studies and in situ ‘sentinel’ animal experiments.” This experiment showed that air pollution can cause respiratory problems, other organ tissue problems, male germ cell problems, and they found these conclusion by doing tests on human and animals (Somers, 2010). My experiment would shine light on what key contributing factors does the most harm to our air. There have been experiments like it but the more information on the topic the better considering the magnitude air pollution is.
